"Are you seriously not going to Liberty's party? It's our senior year, for God's sake!" Aisha's voice cut through the chatter in the cafeteria.

I glanced up from my laptop, arching an eyebrow. "How about no, Aisha?"

The girl across from me groaned and ran her fingers through her curly hair out of annoyance. Aisha simply looks at the rest of the group, all of whom are in their own world. "Hello? Is anyone even hearing me out?"

"Oh trust me, I am. I just don't care," I say, focusing on what I have typed down on my computer. I ignore her scowl and continue on with what I was doing.

"I mean I'm down," Penelope started off, which made Aisha  smile. "But I'd rather go if more than half the group goes."

Aisha's demeanor deflates after hearing that. She still eyes the rest of the friend group, who are all hesitant in answering her. And just to be clearer, there's five of us in total.

For the last three days, Aisha had been trying to convince us to go to Liberty Solace's party, convinced that it's going to be the best part about senior year even though it's still September. For context, Liberty is Holloway High's it girl and all I know about her is that she's pretty, smart and incredibly rich. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason why Aisha wants to go in the first place.

Aisha leaned in, her eyes in a dreamy-like state. "Liberty Solace is the one who's hosting this party. Her house is supposed to be amazing– don't you guys want to see it?"

I raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "Not really."

"No." Tala deadpanned, shaking her head. She tucked her black hair behind her ears and pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose as it was falling down.

"Why would I?" Eliana responded, appalled at the question.

Penelope, God bless her soul, decided to humor Aisha. "Yeah,"

Aisha looked at the rest of us pointedly as if to say, see? It was like Penelope's response was the only one that mattered to her since the rest of us weren't on board with her. "This is why Penny's my favorite."

Penelope grins. Suddenly her attention wavered as she stared back into the distance. Out of curiosity, I turned around and my face lit up after seeing a familiar face.

A blonde boy walked over and sat next to me. He put his arm around me and kissed the top of my head. "Hey babe,"

"Hi, Lucas." I couldn't help but smile.

"And there goes our heartless queen turning not so heartless when it comes to her boyfriend." Eliana teased. She wiggled her eyebrows and grinned.

I flip her off and roll my eyes, which only causes the rest of them to laugh.

I had been going out with Lucas since the end of junior year. He's my first serious relationship and he's earned my trust after growing up together. We had been friends for six years, so not only was Lucas my boyfriend but he's also my best friend. He's someone that I know I can depend on no matter what because he's been there for me through thick and thin even before we started dating.
