"Look at them, they're disgusting." Aisha snarled while aggressively sipping from her drink. Her braids were freshly done and her black hair touched her waist. She was glaring across the cafe at the two very intimate people lurking in the corner.
"Where do they have the nerve to act like that?" Eliana rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. She tapped against the table and her brows were arched.
I sunk into my seat and started to bite the inside of my cheek, oddly focusing on the table.
We were at the Holloway Haven, the cafe shop that's set in the center of town. The air was tinged with a hint of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries. The cafe was vintage with the checkered white and black tiles and red vinyl booths, with a multitude of photographs pinned on the walls, some old while some were fairly recent.
Holloway Haven was a popular spot to hangout with the amount of times the bell chimed whenever a new customer came in. There was something magical and comforting about the cafe that drew people in. It was a place where I always felt at peace, which is why I decided to come here with Aisha, Eliana and Tala. It was around 6 o'clock and in the time we've spent here, we did nothing but shit talk.
I never anticipated Penelope and Lucas being here.
I saw Penelope's story about them confirming their relationship. I spent a good hour staring at the photo before I decided to unfollow her and Lucas on everything. The rest of the girls refused to talk to Penelope and she never made an effort to speak to them either, or even me in that matter.
My chest still hurt from the lack of remorse. I never even received an apology. I didn't know they could be so cruel.
From beside me, Tala murmured, "Ignore them, Acacia." Her hair was French braided and she stared intently at her computer. "We're here to do schoolwork and work on the yearbook, remember?"
"Yeah," I mutter softly, the lump in my throat still there. "I know."
That was the purpose of being here, but my mood soured when spotting Penelope and Lucas. I'd recognize his laugh anywhere and knowing that he was laughing with her stung a lot more than it should've.
But this is no time for me to be sulking and pouting. I needed to organize the next yearbook club's meeting since I was president, as well as study for my history test that I knew nothing about.
Life sucked.
Tala cleared her throat and stared pointedly at Eliana and Aisha who snapped out of their gazes.
"Right, sorry." Eliana said, clearly not sorry at all.
"School is so boring. I don't know why you guys actually want to focus on it right now. We could be doing other things like shopping." Aisha yawned and took a look at her nails. "Or getting drunk, it's been a hot minute."
