Khushi stepped into her house and saw her parents talking to someone. "Hello, Aunty," she greeted, joining her hands.
The lady smiled brightly and asked, "Do you remember me?"
Khushi looked at her keenly, then remembered, "Oh yes, Aunty! I met you at the temple."
She nodded and said, "Yes, I was not feeling well that day, and you helped me. Thank you again for that."
Khushi shook her head and said, "Areeyyy, Aunty, not again. I said na it's my duty to help when someone needs it."
The lady smiled at her fondly, "Okay, beta. By the way, I'm Sunidhi. I couldn't introduce myself that day."
Khushi went and sat beside her, then said, "And I'm Khushi, as you already know."
Sunidhi smiled warmly. Khushi then looked at her parents, asking silently what was going on. They shook their heads, indicating nothing.
Khushi turned back to Sunidhi, "By the way, Aunty, do you know my parents?"
Sunidhi shook her head, "No, beta, I found out about you and came to meet you."
Khushi was shocked and asked, "Me? Why? Do you need anything, Aunty? I can help you with whatever I can. Just tell me, Aunty."
Sunidhi looked at her with caring eyes and fondness, liking her more and more for her willingness to help. Finding someone with such a generous nature is very rare these days she thought.
Sunidhi finally spoke, "No, Khushi, I don't need anything. I just wanted to meet the young woman who helped me so selflessly. It's not often you find someone so kind and thoughtful. You reminded me that there are still good people in this world, and I wanted to thank you personally."
Khushi felt a warmth spread through her at Sunidhi's words. "Aunty, you don't have to thank me. I did what anyone should do."
Sunidhi smiled and they continued talking, Khushi began to blabber, sharing stories and laughing. It didn't seem like they had just met; it felt like they had known each other for years. Finally, Sunidhi bid farewell and kissed Khushi's forehead before leaving.
Later, Khushi was watching a movie when her parents came and sat beside her. She turned off the volume and asked, "Mom, Dad... what happened?"
Her mother looked at her father, then back at Khushi, and said, "Sunidhi ji wants you to become her daughter-in-law beta. She really likes you for her son, that's why she came to ask about it. And we really like her proposal. We want you to think about it."
Khushi frowned and said, "Mom, I am still young. I don't want to marry this early."
In a gentle tone, her mother said, "We are not asking you to marry him right now, beta. Meet him. If you like him, we will proceed with the proposal; otherwise, we will not consider it."
Khushi thought for a moment and then nodded.
"You know we are from the same village," her mother exclaimed excitedly.
She continued, "Two days later, we have to go to attend a wedding in the village. Even Sunidhi is coming. You can meet him there."
Khushi nodded, and her mother hugged her happily. Khushi was left thinking about it. At this point in time, was she ready to get married? Marriage hadn't even crossed her mind for once.
