Class starts and I occupy the seat adjacent from my Best friend. It's been like this for the past 6 months of 7th grade, with it being the final semester until 8th grade. As I listened to the lesson being taught, I started to wonder about what to have for lunch, the voice of the teacher quickly drowned out by the thoughts in my head. As the time ticks by minute after minute, the class eventually concludes with everyone being assigned homework for tomorrow.
The next class seems to fly by without much to do except a quick discussion followed by a short quiz. With the sound of the bell signaling the much awaited recess, I lazily stuff all my notes and other belongings back in my bag for safe keeping, dragging my one and only Bestfriend out of the classroom and into the canteen.
As crowds of students litter the halls, it becomes increasingly more difficult to maneuver around, with the occasional pushing and feet getting stepped on until finally we get to the promised land, i.e the canteen. Scanning the glass display cases of neatly organized snacks, I spot the holy grail of it all, a chocolate fudge brownie topped with rainbow sprinkles nestled in a cute little paper wrapper.
I grab my wallet and pay the nice lady for three brownies paired with a can of coca-cola. Looking to my side, my best friend Jake, is at a loss for what to get, but ultimately decides on a bag of potato chips and a sprite.
Heading back to the classroom, I devoured the delectable brownies one by one, sipping on some coke in the process. Meanwhile Jake took his sweet old time with the bag of potato chips. As we finished eating, the bell rings and the classroom is filled with students again. Everyone sits down as the teacher arrives and starts the next lesson. The next few hours are mostly spent in silence as everyone pays attention to the teacher in front.
Time went relatively quickly as I take exact notes of the lesson, the classroom devoid of any sound as to not incur the wrath of the instructor, who was scribbling away on the blackboard at breakneck speeds. Eventually, the sound of the shrieking bell breaks the once silent classroom, signalling the time for lunch. Finally!
The teacher gives the conclusion to his lesson, assigning homework and etc. the moment he leaves, my classmates quickly rush out of the classroom at alarming speeds, promptly shocking the few people that stayed behind, myself and Jake included.
Pulling out our lunchboxes, me and Jake begin our feast. Past the teeth and through the gums, look out stomach 'cause here it comes. I spent a few moments savoring my food prepared by my lovely mom, when someone peeps through our classroom door, apparently looking for me.
"Hey, are you Mikey?" His voice is stern but somehow friendly at the same time.
"Y-Yes? T-Thats me.." I replied with a not so confident tone. to be honest, I wasn't really the type of person to converse with people that I'm not well acquainted with.
"Oh good, I've been looking for you dude. Mind if I ask ya a what-if question?"
A what-if? Why me of all people? and why were you looking for me when I don't even know who you are?. Despite my thoughts, I let him ask.
"What if someone were to..........confess to you? What would be the most romantic way you could think of? Y'know, just out of curiosity"
What? Why would anyone want to confess to me? I'm literally a recluse that crawled out from under a rock. Well not really, but y'know what I mean.
"...uhm...w-well, hypothetically I would want to be handed flowers and a small box of chocolates, but me being proposed to is a little far-fetched in my opinion"
