"This tattoo actually means that no matter how far or how long I go away, I'll always come back home."

Alira felt she had made the right call by asking Daniel to drive. She had never seen him so happy during his time at the zoo. She realized she had never seen him outside the zoo either. Grace always tried to drag him out to the pub to introduce him to everyone, but Daniel never answered the door or the bell. Alira was often outside walking her dog, but she never saw Daniel. He truly seemed to stay indoors, only coming out to work. She hadn't even seen him go shopping-she began to worry whether he was eating at all when he was at home.
However, as soon as he sat behind the wheel, it was like he came to life. Suddenly, he wasn't the Daniel soaked in depression from that cursed race in Baku. He was the Daniel Alira remembered hearing about-the cheerful, optimistic Daniel full of joy. Alira felt she'd never forget the sparkles in his eyes; she didn't even feel that happy when she could hold her favorite animal.
"It'd be better if I wasn't behind the wheel of a Jeep, but it's a good start," Daniel said with enthusiasm. Alira realized this was the first time she'd seen him genuinely smile. It warmed her heart that she was the one to bring that smile to his face. She felt a sense of pride because she had achieved what no one else could.
She watched the boy intently, trying to notice every detail, every inconsistency, every scar. Daniel was very attractive, Alira had to admit-she had eyes, and to say otherwise would be a lie, which she didn't do. His dark brown curly hair came from his mother, as did his smile. His gummy smile appeared for the first time in a long while, having been hidden for so long. His skin was tanned from working in the scorching Australian sun lately. Everyone who worked with the zoo animals got a tan, even if they didn't want to. She also noticed his scar on his arm. He had broken his arm crashing into a wall during a race, she remembered. Grace had come to work shaken because Daniel hadn't called her, and she didn't know what was happening. Apparently, he had steered into the wall to avoid hitting another driver, even though crashing into another car might have spared his arm.
Then she noticed his tattoos. Words like "Love" and "Free" were the first things she saw. Then her gaze was drawn to the cupid on his left forearm, along with some sort of skull in a hat or something above his elbow. His left hand near his thumb was also adorned with a rose. On his right hand, on his pinky, was a small number 3-the number under which he raced.
Her gaze shifted to his legs. She didn't want to seem like a pervert, but she was really intrigued by his tattoos. She had always wanted one but never had the courage to go to a tattoo artist and let them mark her skin with ink. After all, it was for life, and that scared Alira-she was afraid she might end up with something she'd regret in a few years. So she decided not to get any and not worry about it.
His arms bore only black-and-white tattoos, but his legs were marked with color. Red and black were predominant on his thigh. Daniel was wearing shorts that reached above his knees when he stood, but as he sat, they rode up, and Alira felt she had a view of all the tattoos adorning his left thigh.
