"Yuji, watch out!" Kasaii shouted, pushing the pink-haired kid aside just in time to avoid the curse's initial strike.
The curse was humanoid but had a head resembling an octopus. Its body was a deep, blood-red, and it had wings on its lower back that allowed it to hover in the air. The rising moon cast an eerie glow on its slimy form, making it appear even more grotesque.
Yuji rolled to his feet, eyes wide with shock. "What the hell is that thing?" he gasped, his heart pounding in his chest.
Kasaii didn't waste a moment— her Sharingan activated, crimson eyes spinning as they analyzed the curse's movements. "Stay back. Support me from a distance if you can," she ordered.
The curse attacked again, its arms whipping through the air with extreme speed— this one was faster than the last. Kasaii dodged quickly, then immediately countering with a series of quick strikes, the lightning piercing through the air with a sharp hiss. The curse's tentacles recoiled, oozing a dark, viscous liquid where her blows landed.
Its wings beat furiously, lifting it higher into the air as it attempted to gain an advantage from an aerial position. However, Kasaii leaped into the air with a maniacal laugh, meeting it head-on, their clash creating a rippled through the beach down below— sending sand and water spraying into the air.
She could see its desperation growing as it failed to land blows. "Come on... run away," Kasaii muttered, her eyes narrowing. Her attacks became slower, less precise, a ploy to give the curse an opening for retreat.
Just as she was about to deliver a "final" strike, the curse suddenly vanished, slipping into the ground in the same mysterious way the others had. One moment, it was there, and the next, it melted into the sand, leaving behind a dark, swirling mark that quickly faded.
Kasaii landed gracefully, her senses still on high alert. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was the only thing that broke the silence. She stood for a moment, scanning the area, ensuring the curse was truly gone.
Yuji approached cautiously, "Kasaii-Sensei! Kasaii-Sensei!"
Kasaii turned to him, her expression thoughtful. "I'm correct. Their source is nearby. A few kilometers to the east."
Yuji nodded, his admiration for the sorceress growing more and more. "You're amazing, Sensei. The way you handled the curses... I could barely keep up."
Kasaii smiled, flicking his forehead with 2 fingers. "You're doing great, Yuji. At least, I don't need to constantly be watching over you anymore."
Kasaii's mind was already racing with possibilities, her thoughts a plethora of strategies. She knew they were getting closer to uncovering the truth behind the special-grade curses and their mysterious behavior.
As they started walking toward the east, the sounds of the ocean fading behind them, Kasaii glanced at Yuji. "We'll head to the next location in the morning. Rest up and be ready. It's only gonna get worse."
Yuji nodded, determination shining in his eyes. "I'll be ready. I promise!"

The night was quiet, the only sound in their makeshift campsite being the crickets and they rhythmic breathing of Yuji, who had fallen asleep almost immediately after their return. Kasaii, however, lay awake, her mind racing with thoughts and theories.
The moonlight filtering through the trees cast a silvery glow on their surroundings, making the shadows dance on the ground. She stared at the canopy, replaying each battle in her mind.
