The day was cool, and Ash felt the gentle caress of the breeze on his face. He had his travel bag, his cap, his gloves, and his Pokémon with him, but also... his Pokédex. It had been a day since the professor had given him one, along with Blue.

Blue, I wonder where he could be right now; he completely disappeared since the last time, he thought.

He took his Pokédex out of his bag, holding it in his hands. "How does this thing even work?"

He started examining it, looking for the power button. He found it on the left side. He pressed it, and a logo appeared on the screen. Ash grimaced when he saw the logo: a digital version of Professor Oak's face.

The logo disappeared after three seconds, followed by a jingle. Then, a form appeared on the screen:

Please enter your username and password to continue.

Ash looked at the screen, worried. He was scrolling through combinations of words, numbers, letters, and special characters in his head, but nothing came to mind.

He let out a cry of exasperation and ended up typing the first word that came to his head. He did the same for the password. A loading icon appeared on the screen, and the next moment, a smiling digital face appeared. It was a friendly face, with big bright eyes and a welcoming expression.

"Hello xxPokemonSlayerxx. How can I assist you today? It's a good day to go Pokémon hunting, don't you think?" the Pokédex said cheerfully.

Ash stared at the Pokédex, embarrassed when it loudly announced the username he had chosen. Luckily, there was no one around.

"Oh, I see you have a Charmander with you," the Pokédex exclaimed. "Indeed, Charmander is a…”

"But how do you mute this thing?" Ash interrupted, frantically searching for the button to silence the machine.

The Pokédex started to flail, and some sort of arms came out of the sides of the machine. "No, no, you mustn't do that; it would void the warranty!" the Pokédex said with worry, trying to stop Ash from silencing it with the help of its arms.

Although the Pokédex was a kind of robot, Ash easily managed to overpower it and press the button. The next moment, silence returned, and Ash could enjoy the peaceful quiet again.

The Pokédex was still flailing, but at least it was silent. It was moving around so much that Ash had to let it go, but instead of falling and crashing to the ground like a shit, it starting floated in the air.

Ash was surprised at first but not for long. He knew the professor and his inventions, and a floating tablet wasn't the strangest thing he'd made.

Ash watched the Pokédex flail in the air. It looked like it was complaining or trying to give him important information, but he wasn't interested at all.

Ash resumed his journey. He was at the intersection where he had met the potion seller. The place was empty. Maybe the seller had been kicked out for giving free potions to everyone, or perhaps he had been attacked by wild Pokémon or bandits. He wasn't very strong; he wouldn't have stood a chance.

Ash looked at the tall grass in front of him and sighed. He knew very well what awaited him: claws and blood. The road to Viridian City would be bloody.

He opened his bag and started counting the potions in his possession: 1... 2... 5... 10. "Hmm... that should be enough," he said. He closed the bag, and as he stood up, he saw someone approaching him.

It was a young trainer. He wore yellow shorts and a white outfit, with a cap on his head and a butterfly net in his hands.

"Hello, isn't it a beautiful day?" said the young boy.
