kris's pov:
i sigh, already hearing the daily commotion, and it's 2 minutes before homeroom ends and s.s. starts. my two childhood friends, preston and peet, are already at my desk, talking about some random thing like they always do. today this random thing seems a bit more interesting than usual, so i listen in (it also doesn't help that they're pretty much my only friends, albeit partially by choice.)
"bro, did you hear, there's apparently a new girl coming in to class!" peet says.
"nah, no way. it's a quarter of the way through the last year, why would that happen? who did you hear this rumor from?" preston says matter-of-factly. he was always a bit of a nerd.
"dude, i heard it from simeon, he was saying that he 'heard the principal talking about it' and how he 'would definitely pull this one'," peet said.
"simeon's delusional, which is proven by him thinking he could 'pull this one.' he's never gotten a romantic partner in his life, yet he always brags that he bags some weird celebrity in spain," preston says, acting like he "solved this mystery."
"neither have you, preston; you've been single your whole life, which somewhat discredits your statement." i say, joining in on the conversation.
"danggg!" peet calls out. "preston, you gonna take that, or what?"
"i...uh....I-" preston gets cut off.
"yeah, whatever," peet says. "i, for one, heard that she's gonna be a baddie. i might try to pull shawty if she is."
"peet, you don't have to get with every girl you see-" i'm now the one being cut off, this time by the final bell, and preston and peet scurry over to their seats (which are literally right next to mine, luckily) as s.s. starts.
"ok, so everyone, we're going to do some warm-ups before we truly start class, just to make it easier. we have a lot to learn today, and i need you guys on your a-game," ms. hayes starts, writing her name on the whiteboard as she talks.
"see, that's for the new student! simeon was right, and you were wrong," peet says, whispering to preston discreetly as he points to ms.hayes's name on the whiteboard.
"shut up!" preston says, trying to pay attention.
the begging warm-ups are boring as always, and i'm insanely tired, so i rest my head, trying to fall asleep. i didn't get much sleep last night anyway.
as i try to rest my eyes, i hear the door open, and then softly close. then, i hear a bit of surprised talking and "i told you so!"'s
i guess that's the new girl.
i decide not to lift my head up. i mean, why would i? i'm close to falling asleep, so-
"kris! wake up! do you even know what's going on?"
i look up just barely, thinking that it might be possible to fall into the almost-asleep-land that i was just in. when i look up, i see ms. hayes pointing at me with a scowl on her face, and a girl next to her. the girl has dark brown forearm length hair, with a crazy amount of mascara on. she doesn't look that bad, i think to myself. i just hope peet leaves her alone.
"uh, i'm assuming that there's a new girl here?" i say rather bluntly, looking at ms. hayes. i never liked this teacher. from the beginning of the year, she showed no respect for me (for some unknown reason), so i started showing no respect for her.
i also notice that the girl has a sparkle in her eyes for half a second as i finish my sentence, before she goes back to her usual demeanor. odd.
