decaying determination

The next day chara explained to frisk what happened. It brought out a wave of fear frisk didn't know she subconsciously had. The unknowns and the uncertainty of what sans had become and even the implications of the little that was known. It felt ominous. Like he was no longer even from the same world. Like he was some unknown cosmic being. Just then frisk felt the magical presence of 13 skeletons close by. All of which were watching her ominously.

It was like a this was a scene from a bizarre horror movie. The second frisk spotted the skeletons they started running after her. Like she was some villain that needed to be put down. While running to the ruins Frisk noticed something about chara. Chara looked very drained both mentally and spiritually. It looked like she could eventually recover but for at least a while would be in this weakened state. Perhaps that could be why her control over the timeline was weakened.

Sans has been exploiting emotions to drain power from people's souls. The very idea this wasn't even thought to be possible wasn't helping the situation. It only farther proved that sans was some kind of being connected to the concept of the unknown. But then why was he so good with fear?. Is he the abstract concept of the fear of the unknown or something?. Soon frisk realized she was trapped near where she fell into the underground. She felt desperate for once. Fear was a natural counter to determination. It didn't help that each of those skeletons felt stronger the longer she was afraid and the more potent the fear was.

"I know why you chose to fall into the underground. You were depressed. Your parents never cared about you and always punished you for just doing as you were told. You ran away from home and escaped to mount ebott. However you saw others who were going through something similar. Each time you tried to save them all that happened is they gave some equivalent of an apology and you became more depressed as they all fell into the underground of there own choice. And even now there souls are destroyed. all aside from chara. what a sad existence for a human with godlike power, you can control this dimension and it's timeline but are unable to change much of your past and you can't save most of your first friends".

Each skeleton said with a cruel smile and in their echoed voice of sans. As frisk was told those words she began to remember all of that word for word. Aside from the knowledge that there souls were destroyed at some point. This began to flood her mind with all of those memories in complete detail. Even the emotions she felt back then. Before long frisk began to cry. It had been so many timelines sense than that she almost entirely forgot about all of that. It also brought back some of these feelings she had while depressed. But now they were partly meaningless. If she died she would come back to life by resetting the timeline.

How ironic. Wanting to die but unable to stay dead. This by no means meant she would let even some avatar of sans kill her. If she was going to die it would only be on her own terms. Even the words of a god could not change her mind. Frisk then created a knife out of determination and was about to stab herself in the heart. However the skeletons destroyed the knife with a collective snap of there fingers. Frisk then tried again only for the same result to occur. The skeletons then approached frisk. They then punched and kicked her which in the process broke her arms and legs. "In the end you won't die, but you'll always wish you would".

The skeletons said with a very cruel and sadistic smile. one of the skeletons then snapped there finger to seal this curse. A wave of unknown energy than formed and covered frisk. It felt like stepping on broken glass just upon contact. Though frisk was still crying to much to be able to mention this in any way. Although a significant amount of it was still from a mix of sadness and depression a majority of it was now from pain. It also began to grew into a very strong hatred for sans. As the unknown energy began to move inside of frisk it only amplified the pain. Eventually the unknown energy came in contact with frisk's soul.

Upon doing so it was absorbed into her soul and created empty spots in her soul that could not recover from time alone. It also created a marking on her forehead that appeared to be a skull and crossbones. The crossbones looked to be stained red with blood. The skull looked to be stained a shade of poison green. Together they represented her desire to kill herself and her inability to stay dead. Though this curse mark was the very first of its kind in the entire universe. Almost Nobody would think more than it being a pirate tattoo. At least based on how it looked.

chara then arrived with Charisk in some attempt to rescue her. However the skeletons were already gone. They were too late to see the dust being guided to snowdin by the wind. Frisk was brought carefully to what was once the home of Toriel and put in her bed while chara and Charisk began work on healing her. Sans then began absorbing the dust of the skeletons "although fear is my specialty. Frisk should have thought more before attempting to play hero. Every action has a consequence. Had she not decided to go looking for trouble I would have instead just given her a nightmare, and that curse will serve as a painful reminder of this till the end of the universe".

Sans said with an indifferent expression. With this growth in power the barrier began to crack from the raw power emanating from sans. He knew it was now too late to stop him.
