FANTASY. xvi. moon over bourbon street ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
JOYFUL, CHILDISH GIGGLES ECHOED throughout the house. Small breaths blew past the young girl's lips, displaying her growing exhaustion. The patter of small bare feet slapped across the kitchen tile, followed by playful roars and growls. The young girl shrieked, feigning one of fear despite the contagious laughter which continuously strayed from her mouth. No matter how hard she would try, the girl could not seem to hold in the fit of giggles which bubbled within her with each sprinting stride she'd take. Hide and seek was not her forte. Her great-grandmother knew that much, which was why it was the woman's favorite game.
"I'm coming for you, Mimi!" The woman shouted, attempting to ensue additional excitement into the girl.
Just as she'd hoped, Moira mistakenly allowed a childish shriek to escape her grasp. The young girl instinctively clasped a hand on her mouth in an attempt to avoid any more mishaps. Then, she found the spot she'd been looking for. It was the spot she'd been plotting to use for their next round of hide and seek. The girl had grown tired of being caught, so after her last time at her great-grandmother's house, she'd sketched out a poor, though productive layout of the woman's second-story home. It wasn't detail for detail, of course, but it did just the trick.
Yet another bubble of laughter and agitation developed within Moira's throat as the creaking of wood sounded through the dining room, indicating that her great-grandmother was near. A gasp falling past her lips, the girl rushed into the study. As quietly as possible, she scampered to the cabinets on the back wall and climbed into one of the bottom ones. She shut the door once she made it securely inside, then awaited in elation for her great-grandmother to come find her. Truthfully, Moira hoped the woman would give up, so that she could rub her victory into her face.
Soon, the young girl had grown tired and extremely bored. Her muscles were beginning to cramp due to the small amount of space she'd been given to work with in the cabinet. Not to mention, her stomach had begun to growl in hunger. Before their game of hide and seek, Moira and her great-grandmother had put an order in for a pizza to be delivered. The woman had just suggested they play a game in order to try and pass the time, distract themselves from their own hunger. It had been working until then, when Moira was left with nothing to do other than listen to the grumbles of her agitated stomach.
Releasing a sigh, Moira pushed open the cabinet door and climbed out. She then began to make her way out of the room, but a shiny object lying on the windowsill had inevitably caught her eye. Eyes narrowed in interest, the young girl cocked her head to the side while she sauntered over to the window. Imagine her surprise when her hazel eyes lay upon a white crystal.
"Whoa." Moira uttered in astonishment, her curious hands reaching for the mesmerizing object.
Before she could get her grubby hands on the crystal, the study room door burst open. Startled, Moira jumped in her spot, moving away from the found object. Her tense body quickly relaxed at the sight of her great-grandmother standing at the door. However, the unease returned once she took complete notice of the unusually displeased expression painted across the woman's face. And it only seemed to further provoke the woman when she came to see the object which Moira had lay her eyes upon.
