Mishika's pov

Today, Ekansh told me his mother would be staying with us for a few days. Honestly, I feel like I'm walking on eggshells. I cleaned the entire house and started preparing lunch.

"Ansh, can you hear me?" This man is so busy! I swear, someday I'll get my revenge for making work his priority. I know being a doctor is not a 8 hour duty, I know his job is demanding, but at least when he's home, he could prioritize me. But no, according to Dr. Saheb, his priority list consists of work, phone, friends, family, and finally, me - the unofficially ignored wife.

After a full three minutes, he replied, "Yes, what is it, Mishti?" his eyes still fixed on his beloved phone. One day, I'll get my revenge! A sly smile lingered on my lips. "Why are you smiling like that?" he asked, bringing me back to reality. "Like what?"

"Like something is cooking in that little brain of yours." Did he just call my brain little? How dare he!

"Nothing," I said, "just tell me what your mom likes to eat and what she hates." Of course, I need to know this - the way to her heart is through her stomach.

"Mumma?" A hint of confusion crossed his face. He looks like a dumbhead.

"Did you forget, Mr. Ekansh, that your mom is coming?"

"Yes, yes, but why are you asking me?" Who made this man a doctor? I really want to hit him on the head!

"I want to know, just in case I accidentally cook something she hates. And since she's coming for the first time, I want to cook her favorite meal."

"Aww, my little wife wants to impress my mom - that's interesting," he said, his face screaming teasing, but his smile hinting at happiness.

"Enough of your teasing, please just give me my answers." I have a lot of work on my to-do list.

"My mom likes Manchurian, and she hates spicy food with sugar in it. She also likes halwa and anything made of paneer."

"Okay, thanks." Manchurian wasn't expected - I've never made Chinese food in my life! But it's okay, I'll try. Come on, Mishti, you can do this! Time to call upon my Doraemon! I Googled the recipe and watched a YouTube video to double-check it. I can't afford to take any risks right now.

Ekansh's POV

Mishti is a package of surprises. The more I explore, the more I wonder. Cooking my mother's favorite dish... it's a lovely gesture.

Maa arrived at home, and she was looking at everything, like some human looking through a microscope. I know my mom very well, though she is a pure-hearted woman, but sometimes she behaves like a TV serial character. Dramatic

"Did you hire a maid?""
And here it goes.

"Yes, maa, Mishti was saying that she would do everything, but I think that it would make her tired, so I just hired a maid."

"So now you too have started defending your wife like a joru ka gulam (henpecked husband)." She glared at me, making me shut my mouth.

Even though I kept quiet to maintain decorum, I don't mind at all. I know my house is small, but I still see Mishiti getting tired, and I am also earning well. I can afford this.

C'mon, Ekansh, distract her.
"Maa, let's go for lunch. It's almost ready."

Mishti was busy in the kitchen. I wanted to tell Maa that she cooked her favorite food, but I paused, thinking that it would be better if she knew herself; otherwise, she may think that I was defending my wife.
