the beginning

charles POV: 

Max and i had always had a type of bond, since karting. we've known eachother years and years, and now we had both made it to formula one, competition was higher than ever between us, but so was the bond we shared. 

today was the beginning of a brand new race week, it was time for the spanish grand prix. today was FP1, nothing too dramatic. i decided to walk around the paddock and find max, seeing as it had been a while since the two of us caught up.. well it had been roughly 18 hours. 

"max!" he turned to face me and his face immediately lit up as we dapped eachother up and hugged. 

"mate, its been a minute" he says laughing 

"yeah.. yeah it has been, are you excited for the race?"

our conversation went on for what felt like another 20 seconds, which in reality was 20 minutes. something about talking to him made me feel happier with my day, he always cheered me up or gave me a confidence boost when i needed one. after our conversation i had to return to my garage to go over some strategies and other race day talk. but something about me couldnt keep my mind away from max. maybe there was something i forgot to tell him? or maybe i wanted to invite him over for a hang out? i really dont know, but i couldnt keep my mind off of him for the whole rest of the session. 

max POV:

if theres one person i need to talk too before anything race related, it would be charles. no matter what the both of us made a point to have at least one conversation before every practice, quali, and race. it was something the both of us had adapted over the course of our racing years, unless of course it was something extra urgent within the team that couldnt go un-said.  however, there was something that felt off today, well not off, maybe different. i felt like i missed him more than usual.. and i wish i had said more than i had too him, i just loved seeing his smile, and hearing his voice whenever i could. he was so infectious to me, i just wish i said something more too him. i dont know why its different today, but it is..
