Indeed, Xie Zheng felt her stare, and it made him self-conscious.

So self-conscious and nervous that he had to use all his self control to not squirm awkwardly under her gaze.

A strange thing given that from the day he was born, people had been eyeing him with the same eagerness with which a thirsty man in the desert gazes at a glass of water, and so often that he had become accustomed to them, not even paying attention to them anymore.

Add to it the fact that deep down he liked her stare on him (and a lot too) and Xie Zheng's perplexity, anger and anxiousness was explained.

But what made him truly ashamed was that there was a sick proudness and pleasure he felt thinking her eyes were glued on him, that maybe she searched him with those magnetic eyes everytime she entered school and maybe (at least during those moments) her mind was plagued by him; and deep down, even though he would never admit it even to himself, he hoped his thoughts were true..., because he too did these things.

He didn't know when it started, maybe right from their first meeting in the infirmary, but since then Chiyuki Himura became a constant in his thoughts, that day by day became more persistent.

Things became worse when the blue eyed male smelt her pheromones by chance while the two of them were dealing with some troublemakers;

He nearly lost control of himself in that situation due to her alluring dark chocolate scent and he quickly (but not without struggles) came back to senses only thanks to his father's strict training.

Since that day Xie Zheng became unconsciously obsessed by the emerald eyed alpha, so much that even if all his life he had a sweet tooth, dark chocolate became his favorite snack.

It was strange, very strange.

They were both alphas and yet the black haired male craved her pheromones, her presence, her attentions, and, maybe, even more...

Xie Zheng even asked his father about it, obviously not telling him directly ( it would have been shameful and if the elders had discovered this <<problem>> they would certainly have removed the young male from the position of heir ), but with vague questions and some lies.

The answers didn't reassure him at all:

Xie Zheng's father declared that it was impossible for two alphas or omegas to be attracted to each other and to crave each other's scents, an alpha will only ever crave an omega's pheromones andl vice versa.

It was a biological thing, an indestructible law, and it was also one of the fundamental pillars on which their society was based.

(Author: Remember that in this Abo world same sex relationships are not looked upon favorably;

I don't mean to offend the lgbtq+ community, I'm really sorry if I did, but I'm simply reporting facts from the original novel)

But if that was really the case, then why was he so attracted to Chiyuki?

There was something wrong with him?

Was he a freak?

Had he gone insane?

He didn't know, he could only reassure himself by blaming his differentation period and the instability of his pheromones due to it.

(Author: Taking a test to see if you're differentiating into an Alpha or an Omega is too simple and logic for you, huh? Just saying)
