summary - partayyyyyy (idk how to not write angst)

Iida woke up in a cold sweat, gasping for air. He shuffled backwards until his back was against the headboard of his bed and clutched his heart, which was beating so abnormally hard that he could feel it in his throat. It hurt. It hurt to breathe. His striped pajamas were sticking to his skin like a film of grease. His engines were digging into the meat of his calves.

Ever since that half-failed rescue mission in Camino and his move into UA's new dorm system, he'd been constantly plagued by nightmares, ones that were much too realistic. They usually consisted of reliving that night, the night All Might retired. Sometimes he would see your limp body along with his classmates', reduced to a bloody mess, in the middle of the broken city while he hid like a coward, frozen in fear. Other times he would save you, only for you to take your last, shaky breath in his trembling arms. Recently, he's been seeing more terrors of you rotting in the hospital, unable to live out your dream of becoming a hero. Just like his brother. Why didn't you save me, Iida-kun? you would wail, your voice muffled by an oxygen mask. They would happen every few nights, and he would always be forced awake to escape the horrors, the guilt of running away while you were still out there.

How can he call himself your friend when he abandoned you?

And to think he hasn't even visited you yet! All of his friends have seen you in the hospital, and Midoriya even invited him! But Iida had unexpectedly rejected the invitation. He just couldn't. He couldn't bring himself to go to the hospital. To see your unconscious body laying on the cot. Just like his brother. Just the thought made him nauseous.

He hated that place. He hated the hospital now.

Still, he wondered how you were holding up. He wondered if you had thought of him at all, about how bad of a friend he is.

His digital clock displayed 4:07 AM in glowing red digits, he had to squint to read it clearly. He felt lightheaded, and his chest was still throbbing painfully. He needed a cold glass of water to alleviate it. Iida threw off his damp blanket and stood up. He put on a pair of glasses from his shelf and hobbled towards the common room.

With shaky hands, he poured himself a glass of water and took a long sip, focusing on anything but the nightmare he had woken up from. Maybe the nightmares were just another byproduct of moving out to live in such an unfamiliar environment. Maybe they would dubside when he finally acclimated to the space. The dorms differed greatly from his large family home. He was just glad that the dorm had many windows, like his actual home. It made the space feel so open. From the kitchen he could stare at the glowing moon, which he found relaxing. His heart seemed to calm down and he decided that he would go on his daily run earlier than usual to get his mind off things.
