The shaking sound of the ceiling fan in the hotel room of the Tampa, Florida hotel was the only sound Taylor's brain could process at the moment. Tree had taken her phone. It was necessary so she could at least attempt to get some rest before her string of shows this weekend. Unfortunately her body wouldn't relax, her mind wouldn't shut off, and she couldn't stop the tears from falling. It also didn't help that Joe wouldn't stop blowing up her phone about getting her stuff out of their place in London.
She can hear the worried hushed voices in the other room. Taylor had been in bed for two days. Basically rotting at this point. Ever since Joe decided to show up unexpectedly in Texas after her final show there blindsiding her by shattering her heart into a million different pieces. She thought he had changed. Him showing up was suppose to be them turning a new leaf. Putting the past few months of fighting and tears behind them. Instead he gave her an ultimatum. The tour, or him. If she thought that her heart couldn't ache more, in that moment it was pulsing with pain. He knew how much her fans and her career meant to her. Joe wanting her to give up her life's work to run away with him? What happened to them?
Taylor turned onto her stomach and let her mind block out the sound and wander back in time; trying to decipher where exactly it went wrong. She should have predicted this sooner. They were falling apart at the seams barely holding on for the last year. Every night was a new battle. The tense quiet. Her trying to ignite the spark again and Joe spending more time away from home. Screaming matches that would end in her crying on the kitchen floor and him storming off to god knows where. He would come back hours later stumbling drunk and she would tense with fear huddled under the covers in the guest bedroom. It was never good when he was drunk.
The sound of the fan was getting louder and louder. Taylor tried to block it out with the pillow, but proved to be unsuccessful. Releasing a quiet moan she rolled over onto her side and pulled her body off the bed. She shuffled to the ensuite bathroom and turned the shower on to scalding. Finally. The shaking fan creaks were replaced with the soothing sound of the water falling on the tiles. Taylor shrugged out of her extra large Post Malone concert tee and shuffled into the shower; sitting down on the tiles and letting the water run down her back. As well as the tears.
"Tay?" Tree's voice carried through the wall. She shrinked back into the tiles, not having the energy at the moment to deal with whatever was about to come next. "Taylor, you are suppose to be resting."
"Isn't a shower considered resting?" Taylor mumbled in response from where her head was resting on her knees.
"Not when the water is scalding your skin and you are sitting on hard tile. Come on Tay. Let's go. Get up and back in bed." Tree reached in and shut off the water handing her one of the fluffy towels and reaching out to help her up.
Tree has been with Taylor through it all, but this was something else entirely. She had watched her and Joe fall in love, flourish is their relationship, start struggling, and eventually watching Joe steal her spark little by little until they finally reached this point. Taylor was a shell of herself and Tree was worried that this time she might not be able to bring her back.
Taylor looked up and slowly grabbed Tree's hand. The red rims around her eyes exposed her recent activities. "Oh Tay...What can I do for you?"
The simple question sent her and she broke out in another sobbing session. "I don't know Tree! I didn't know I could feel this! How did we get here?!"
Tree wrapped her favorite client and basically second daughter tightly in the towel seeing her body start to shake and pulled her close. Taylor's sobs continued to wrack her trembling body as Tree guided her over to the bed. She pulled the covers down and helped Taylor in. She shifted beside her and helped Taylor lay her head on her lap.
