Taylor stared mindlessly at the oven door in her Tribeca apartment watching the heat waves bounce on the air as the appliance gained enough heat before it would beep signaling to her that it was hot enough to cook the dinner she had prepared. For some reason she couldn't pull herself away. Whether it was the anxiety or the minutes ticking away to Travis's arrival she didn't know.
Even though they had a really good first date in Kansas City, she was still terrified of messing everything up. She wanted the night to be perfect. She had made her own lasagna recipe with a hand tossed salad and homemade dressing. She even had her security go out and get her favorite white wine since she did not have the mental capacity to deal with the outside world today.
Taylor had even spent more than an appropriate amount of time picking out her outfit. She still wanted to impress him even if she did end up spending the night is his guest room and waking up looking like a mess. What eventually won the selection for the night was a short black skirt with a maroon long sleeve quarter buttoned cotton shirt tucked into her skirt. Taylor has decided to pair the ensemble with some cream heels and a gold necklace stack as well as her trusty rings and earrings combination. Luckily her nails were still done from the recents shows so she didn't need to worry about that.
While the timer on the oven ticks down to completion, Taylor takes those last few minutes to meander around the apartment finishing up those last details. The dining table was set with a romantic mood, a flickering candle, and the bottle of wine with glasses off to the side. She tidied up the little bit of mess in the living room and dimmed the lights.
The excitement bubbled up in her stomach more as she pulled the lasagna out of the oven letting it cool on the stove. Taylor didn't want to get her hopes up to much since it was the only the second date. She just had a really good feeling about Travis and that absolutely terrified her. When she was with him her broken heart mended a little more. It was almost like it had never been shattered in the first place. Her heart wanted to jump head first and never look back while her head was still hiding behind the door worried of history repeating itself.
The sound of her phone ringing pulled her out of her thoughts. It was Drew on the other line letting her know that Travis had arrived downstairs. Trying to not let her nerves go crazy in these last moments, Taylor did one last look around the apartment kicking Meredith off the arm chair on her way to the door. Her annoyed little meow wasn't lost on Taylor as Meredith sauntered off to one of the back rooms.
As the sound of the doorbell echoed around the room she took one last deep breath before pulling it open. As soon as she saw him an immediate smile was plastered on her face.
"Hey Tay, How are you?"
"Hi," She looked down as a blush crept up her face. "I'm great, come on in." Taylor motioned for Travis to come in and closed the door behind him.
"These are for you," He held out a bouquet of hydrangeas.
"Oh my gosh! Thank you so much Travis! How did you know these are my favorite?"
"I remembered." He gave her a little wink as she let her head bend down to smell the flowers.
Taylor motioned for him to follow her as she went into the kitchen to find a vase. Travis took a seat on one of the bar stools and looked around as she filled the vase with water and arranged the flowers just how she liked them.
"I love your place. Its so cozy and unique."
"Yea I know my style is a bit weird." Taylor pushed the vase aside and started messing with her fingers.
"No thats not what I meant. I really like it. Its so....you." Travis looked over at her on the last word reaching to grab her hand.
The nerves that had settled in her earlier instantly dissipated as his hand clasps hers. She looked up into his eyes at the contact and could see he was genuine. He wasn't just trying to sweet talk her or be nice. It was refreshing and unlike anything she had ever felt. As quickly as the moment came she had to ruin it pulling her hand from his and turning to the stove.
