Expectancy is a strange little thing. A state of thinking or rather, hoping, that something—sometimes good, sometimes bad—will happen. If you were lucky, the situation would turn in your favour, and if you were unlucky, it wouldn't.

Juniper wasn't often lucky.

The young woman awoke from a fickle slumber, expecting to see the wooden ceiling of her trusted bedroom, the small candle on her nightstand that made the entire room smell like beeswax, the sage green wallpaper with different kinds of flowers on it painted by herself, and to see the window next to her bed, the see-through glass allowing her to see the ancient Juniper tree that stood outside the large house her parents and her resided in.

Yet when she opened her grey eyes, her bedroom was not what she saw. Instead her sight fell on the spare bedroom in Katherine's small home, which Juno found out was not actually hers to begin with, but instead was a hotel and belonged to a kind old woman called 'Mrs.Flowers'. The room was a stark difference to her own, the wallpaper was pink and looked like it dated back a good few decades. Instead of the familiar smell of wax, a sickeningly sweet smell overwhelmed her senses, probably belonging to a perfume Katherine wore. Lastly, the only window in the room was covered by floral curtains, and Juniper was sure that the old tree she wished to see behind them would not be there.

A sigh left her lips whilst she sat up in the large bed, the sullen breath of air filled with homesickness and grief for her old life. She rubbed her tired eyes, leaving behind a redness, or perhaps it had already been there.

The witch fought the urge to yawn, having had a terrible sleep in her new surroundings. The little sleep she'd gotten mainly consisted of dreams, or rather nightmares, which was nothing unusual for her. Maybe that's why she'd expected to see her old bedroom when she awoke, because her dreams surrounded her childhood home and the people inhabiting it. But alas, she was not home, the sharp sting in her heart did nothing but remind her of that fact.

When hearing unfamiliar music in the other room she was reminded of the plans for the day. Yes, Katherine had told her all about the intricate plans she made for the people that had wronged her, and today she would call her friend to come over and update her about the moonstone she so desperately sought after. The stone she expected Juno to find.

Now, Juniper was taught at a very young age that meddling in a vampire's business was one of the biggest faults a witch could ever make, and she hadn't forgotten that, she just couldn't find it within herself to care. The brunette vampire in the other room was not to be fully trusted, Juno wasn't that dense that she couldn't see Katherine's subtle manipulative undertones—which weren't actually that subtle—and she was sure to be cautious around her, but at the same time, what did she have to lose? Nothing except for her life. But she wasn't sure if that even mattered much anymore.
