I swept all the files on my desk onto the floor with my hand in a fit of rage, intense stress gripping me so hard my breathing instantly became rugged.

"Sir—"

"I don't care what means you use, how much money you use or how many people get involved," I interjected, pacing towards Liam who seemed to be in as much distress as I was. "My wife returns to me safe and sound before midnight."

Midnight was but roughly three hours away.

Hours.

Fuck.

I kicked into the wall so roughly I felt my toes scream in pain but that was nothing compared to the pain constricting my chest right now.

A second was more than enough to wipe a smile off her face and plunge her into misery. A lot worse could happen in hours, especially with a diabolical man like my father involved.

Everything was going so well. We were doing so fucking well I'd never felt this happy and peaceful in my life despite everything going on around us. Things just needed to turn around at a moment when we were at our highest and—

No.

I couldn't lose her. I couldn't bear the idea of anything happening to her. She was too special—too fucking precious to bear the thought of any harm coming her way or being without her.

I strode towards my desk maniacally to grab my phone. I'd called her for the past hour and a half without getting a response, but now, I couldn't get through to her altogether. Her phone was off. That couldn't be good.

"Tell me again when you last saw her," I asked Raquel, gripping hard onto my phone. "What happened? Was she hurt in any way? Did she seem agitated or threatened? I need every single detail."

I'd last seen her after her stellar presentation before I went off for a meeting only to return to the news of her being presumed missing.

We had plans to go home together. She was neither there nor here at the office. She wasn't with Ava and Olivia hadn't heard from her either.

"She went to your father's office to confront him about a journal he took from her desk," Raquel repeated her narration for the second time.

I was familiar with that journal. Heck, I'd confronted him about it before. What was so special about it and what was written in it? Were they her private thoughts that he invaded?

If I'd known earlier, I would have taken it from him when I had a chance to and prevented this stressful event.

"I didn't see her when she returned from his office but the security footage shows her leaving the building roughly fifteen minutes later alone. We've been trying to track down the car she drove away in since we figured."

She was driving herself in this weather. Could my stress be heightened any further?

"Show it to me," I demanded. "Every single footage with my wife in it. I want to see it all."

Liam and Raquel sprung into action, setting up my computer. Within a minute and a half, I was going through a short series of the last hour before anyone heard from Sofia apart from my father who was apparently nowhere to be found at such a critical moment.

She appeared highly emotional—angry even. By the time she left in the car, she was crying, her hands visibly shaking and her face red.

My father could have said anything to her to trigger such a reaction from her. He could have manipulated her or even worse, harmed her.
