Two people do this work; Abyssal Phoenix and Niviya.
This work is heavily inspired by The Glory.
The Glory is a K-drama series written by Kim Eun-sook and directed by Ahn Gil-ho. The story revolves around a student named Moon Dong-eun, who was a victim of school violence perpetrated by Park Yeon-jin, Jeon Jae-jun, Lee Sa-ra, Choi Hye-jeong and Son Myeong-oh.
Dong-eun plans her revenge for the next 20 years to get back at her bullies with the help of a few friends.
Watching The Glory not only gave me an insight into how Korean society functions, its education system and its political system but what made me admire the entire series is how well Dong-eun's revenge was played out.
But if we were to imagine an alternative universe, what if Dong-eun's narration could not be trusted?
What if Yeon-jin and the group never bullied her in the first place?
What if the friends that she made during high school burned to the ground because of her own doing?
What if her well-planned revenge was just a way for her to be satisfied at the thought of her enemies struggling?
What if her revenge was never well planned out?
What if this was all but a delusion?
This is where it inspired me to write this story; at one point in my life, I'd never seen someone so delusional until I met 'Jane'. I was only in university when I met her. Trust me; you don't want to mess with her. Not because I did something to her; wait, I think it's my existence that bothers her. Friends and classmates who have dealt with her shit and they have rather similar stories about her.
And here is my advice to anyone reading this: 'If everyone has a problem with you or you have problem with everyone maybe it's time for you to rethink your life decisions.'
It had me wondering if someone like her spirals down to an ever darker path, who knows what the hell would happen in the future?
A coin is my philosophy of a truth and a lie; sometimes heads could be a lie and tails could be a truth. All I know is there are two sides to a story; imagine if someone used the lie and twisted it into their own narrative countless times till it becomes the truth for the world to see.
Imagine where your lives are being ruined over something that's petty and fake; you worked so hard to reach where you are only for it to crumble in one night from a 'he says, she says'. Your life falls apart because the person who had perpetrated you in your past has decided to stoop even lower and haunt you for the second time.
A time when no one will believe you until the damage is too painful to handle. They don't face the consequences but you do; even if you did nothing wrong and minded your own business.
I want you guys to take a deep breath and ask this question to yourself:
What would you do if you were in that position?
It happens a lot in real life; I took some inspiration from real-life incidents. Examples of such inspirations are from the K-pop girl groups, T-ARA and AOA bullying scandals. Ryu Hwa-young and Kwon Mina singlehandedly destroyed the reputations of their respective groups while they managed to evade the public consequent-free.
While claiming bullying accusations that turned out to be false, the backlash that they faced was not as damaging as T-ARA and AOA. Shin Jimin, who was the leader of AOA at the time, had to go into hiding while Mina egged the situation on with help from society. These people lost their careers over something that isn't true and what did Hwa-young and Mina face in the end? NOTHING!
What kind of individual that's so sick in the head decided to wake up one day and check up on their 'enemies' daily lives and go: 'Wow, my life sucks and look at them now! Living in luxury. Maybe I should go and destroy them.' It's hard to fathom there are so many people like that out there, roaming freely in the streets.
Please keep in mind this story is a mix of fiction and real-life incidents. But I do hope you will enjoy reading this and learn something from it. It was really painful for me to write this and my stomach tends to twist at the thought of many possibilities of how things would turn out. Your feedback is heavily appreciated.
Happy reading.
