"Ms Rightsman, from what we were told, this is the person who made the anonymous complaint," the senior manager of the IT department was interrogating Rebecca first thing in the morning. Unfortunately for her, apart from Dickinson and the HR manager, Jane was there wearing her crocodile tears and the best 'I'm a pitiful girl' look and Dickinson was fighting the urge to roll his eyes. "Ms Crosser has accused you of bullying her since your uni years and at the workplace. Is this true?"
"Yes, sir," Rebecca replies firmly. "While it is true that I went to M University with Ms Crosser, however, I can firmly assure you that the bullying never took place in the university."
"Yes, you did!" Jane screeched at Rebecca, who wished she could cover her ears. "You literally made fun of me whenever I did presentations and you would gang up on me to make my life miserable!!! I want you to pay for what you did to me, you goddamn bitch!"
"Ms Crosser!" The senior manager calms Jane down. "May I remind you that we are in an office where we must maintain our professionalism."
"I'm being professional!"
"Ms Crosser, defamation is a serious crime. If you have the evidence to support your claims, we will investigate Ms Rightsman."
"I have proof!" Jane just kept screaming. (Gosh, I'm surprised she still has her vocal cords.) "She did this to me every day and now she's back to haunt me for the rest of my life!!"
"Ms Crosser, please calm down," even the senior manager is unsure of what to do with her. Having enough of the screaming, he called for the head department. "Mr Dickinson, please drag her out."
He nodded and dragged the screaming Jane out of the meeting room, the senior manager turned to Rebecca. "Ms Rightsman, you must be aware that if what Ms Crosser says is true, we would have no choice but to terminate your contract."
"I understand, sir," Rebecca replies. The senior manager adjusted his glasses and looked at her with soft eyes.
"If you like, why don't you work from home as we conduct the investigation to ease both parties? Besides, we have to assure both of your safety. Anything else you would like to add before we end this meeting?"
Rebecca ponders whether she should tell the superiors about Jane's behaviour. But she remembered what Callas had instructed her. 'Tell him about Hannah and Nathalie and the recent scandal. Don't mention Emi and Jaques or me. Let them investigate themselves.'
"Actually, there is something else that must be brought to your attention." Oh? They furrowed their eyebrows.
"Believe me not but I met up with the legal team of the Han House and Summer Bees Honey Drink last night. If you are aware, the CEOs of both companies are under fire for bullying accusations."
"Yes, but what does this have to do with you and Ms Crosser?" The HR manager asks.
"Well, I personally know both of them as Summer Bees's CEO is my high school friend while the Han House's CEO was my coursemate in university and Ms Crosser also knew both of them. On the day of the scandal, their lawyers found out that the person behind the Instagram post was Ms Crosser and are planning to take legal action against her."
Their eyes widened, they thanked Rebecca for the information and were asked to fetch Jane. Their eyes locked once more as they crossed paths across the meeting room. Jane was about to bite her ears when Rebecca left the scene immediately. The senior manager, HR manager and Dickinson were discussing something in silence while Jane was screeching about how she was treated unfairly at the company and that they hadn't dismissed Rebecca.
"Jane, just be quiet for 10 minutes," Dickinson said while rubbing his temple in frustration. "We'll get back to you shortly." Jane shuts her mouth and sulks like a child. (Um, how old are you?) Each minute went by as the managers' eyes widened as they scrutinised each article and recorded live streams of Jane. It doesn't help the fact that two of the biggest companies in the country are after her and Python Corp.
