23. Logan: Wow, Sam, thanks for the introduction
It turns out, I am way out of this school's league. I was put in the top classes, which only had a few people in them, considering they only had the smartest juniors. Some kids went in and out of my classes, but there were constantly five kids who were in every class of mine.
For one, there was Andrew, I already new him. But there was this short girl, Mikala (?), Andrew would ask her something and then she would get all snappy at him; she reminds me of a Chihuahua. And then Darcy, from what I got, she is Mikala's tagalong. And this other girl, she doesn't talk at all, the average nerd, I didn't catch her name. The last guy, he was with Andrew and me the whole time, his name is Ryan. Everyone looks pretty average, and I think I fit in fairly fine.
Except, Ryan does have spikey bleach blonde hair, unlike Sam's, his is natural. He seems cool, really smart; but kind of awkward and quiet.
At lunch, that's when I see Sam for the first time, only after I sit down, though. I passed her on my way to Andrew's table, but I hadn't seen her then. She sits with a group of girls, all separated from everyone else. And, at her table, two of the girls from my classes are with her, just not the super silent one.
I watch Sam guzzle her water and not eat; still not eating... And she also looks this way every so often, I though she was keeping an eye on Andrew, but then on time she catches my eye and looks away immediately.
Is she watching me?
I eat my pizza and fries and then I hear the guys say that lunch is almost done. I look around for a clock to see the hands on 11:50. I rise to my feet and walk across the cafteria. I don't even know what I'm doing, but I end up in front of Sam.
Her eyes jump up at me and pierce straight through me. Her whole group watches me too.
"What are you doing here? Get away." She tells me through tight lips.
"What's wrong with you? Seriously, you haven't eaten once since Steak 'n' Shake, have you?" I ignore her question.
Sam shakes her head back and forth and pulls on my arm so I am kneeling beside her. "I can't be seen with you, go away." Then she pushes me back so I stumble as I stand.
"What the heck, we're friends, why not?"
"I don't know you. Now go away." She faces her friends and sip her water, but they all still look over her to me.
I wave at them, then lean next to Sam. "Come on, I don't know why your mad at me-"
She spins her head around and pushes her eyebrows together. "I'm not mad, now go away!"
"Why can't I be by you then, what if I want to hang out with you?"
"Because you're too busy with someone else, I see. Now I told you to go away!" she pushes my elbow off the table.
I stand up and Turn to go back to our table, but I run into Andrew and Ryan. "Oh, sorry."
"No, we were just getting you. Lunch is over." Andrew says and then walks ahead to the trash, I also see him wave and smile at Sam, and her brush here fingers through her hair which had been flying, static-y, around her face. I wave to her too, and go next to Ryan on our way out.
"What were you talking to Sam for?" Ryan asks me.
I think of something good to hide her secret, but it decides maybe next time. "Sam is my next door neighbor, she has a crush on Andrew, but she seemed mad at me that I was near her and then, I don't know."
Andrew furrows his brow, "Do you like her?"
My answer comes out too quick, "No, we're just friends."
