THE morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm, golden glow across the hospital room. Vince lay in bed, his body still weak but his spirit stronger than ever.
He turned his head slightly and found Lila beside him.
She looked tired—eyes heavy, hair loosely tied—but still beautiful in a way that felt real, not polished. She had stayed with him through everything.
"Good morning," Vince murmured, his voice rough but warm.
Lila’s face immediately softened, relief flashing across her eyes. "Good morning… How are you feeling?"
"Better," he said, squeezing her hand gently. "Because of you.”
Her lips trembled into a small smile as she leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. "You scared me, Vince. I really thought I was going to lose you."
He shook his head slightly, his gaze steady on hers. "You won’t. I’m not going anywhere. Not anymore.”
There was a pause—heavy, full of everything they almost lost.
Then Lila inhaled slowly.
"I… I have something to tell you."
Vince looked at her, curious but calm. "What is it?”
Her fingers tightened around his. "Vince… I’m pregnant."
For a second, everything stilled.
Vince just stared at her, as if trying to make sure he heard it right.
For a moment, Vince stared at her, his mind processing the words. Then, a smile spread across his face, pure joy radiating from his eyes.
"You're pregnant?" he repeated quietly, almost like he was afraid the moment might disappear.
Lila nodded, tears slipping down her cheeks. "Yes. We’re going to have a baby."
Vince pulled her closer carefully, mindful of his condition, wrapping his arm around her like she was something he needed to hold onto.
"This…" he exhaled, resting his forehead against hers, "this is the best thing that’s ever happened to me."
They stayed like that for a while—just breathing, holding onto something new… something hopeful.
For the first time, the future didn’t feel like something to survive.
It felt like something to look forward to.
They held each other, savoring the moment, their hearts beating in unison. The darkness of their past was behind them, and a bright future lay ahead.
A few weeks later, Vince was finally discharged.
He still moved carefully, still healing, but there was strength in him again. And this time, it wasn’t just survival—it was purpose.
They returned to Vince's mansion, a place that had once been filled with tension and danger but now felt like a safe haven.
Like something was beginning instead of ending.
As they walked through the grand hallways, hand in hand, Vince glanced at Lila, a smile tugging at his lips.
"You know… this place needs to change.”
Lila looked at him, amused. "Oh? And what kind of changes are we talking about?"
He exhaled, glancing around.
"Well," Vince said thoughtfully, "this place has always been a fortress, a place to keep out threats. Then he looked back at her. "But I don’t want that anymore.”
