2004

The Oberoi house buzzed with excitement as they prepared for the festival. Mr. Oberoi decorated the house with colorful items and Mrs. Oberoi prepared dishes. Meanwhile a young 5 year old Kainaat was playing with toys on the rug.

Kainaat giggled as she threw her doll on the floor. "Take that!".

Mrs. Oberoi heard all the yelling coming from the living room. "Kainaat! Be quiet!".

Kainaat yelled back, "Ma! It's just toys!".

Mrs. Oberoi sighed. "Fine, but clean up after! Okay?".

Kainaat nodded. "Ok, ma!".

Kainaat countinued playing and the preparations countinued. Suddenly, there was a thump on the door.

"Shalu, it must be them. Can you check please?" Mr. Oberoi yelled from the bedroom.

"Haan, I'll go get it," Mrs. Oberoi replied back. She walked to the door and opened it, to her surprise,it wasn't the guests that they expected.

"Mama?" The little girl on the doorstep asked. Mrs. Oberoi was very shocked, "Arey, Raju! Come here!". Mr. Oberoi came running down the stairs, "Shalu, what happened?" He asked her.

"There's a child on our doorstep," Mrs. Oberoi replied, her expression still looking shocked. Mr. Oberoi looked at the girl. She was a cute chubby girl, around Kainaat's age.

"Papa?" The girl asked again, she looked nervous. "We are not your parents sweetheart. What's your name?" Mrs. Oberoi asked her.

The girl looked sad but she replied. "Sitara".

"Last name?" Mr. Oberoi asked but Sitara shook her head. "I don't remember anything, except for my name and how my brother looks like,".

"What's your brother's name?" Mrs. Oberoi asked. Sitara shook her head. "I don't know, all I know that it starts with V. V-vi, I don't know."

Mrs. Oberoi looked at Mr. Oberoi. "Raju, we should take her in."

"What! No! We can send her back or to the police station," Mr. Oberoi replied. Mrs. Oberoi sighed. "But Raju, she's so cute. And plus, it won't work. Let's take her in until we find her family,".

Finally, Mr. Oberoi gave in, Sitara would officially be living with them until she finds her family. "Kainaat!" Mrs. Oberoi called. Kainaat came running to where they were, she smiled when she saw the girl.

Mr. Oberoi smiled. "This is your new sister, Sitara. Be nice to her and let her play with you, become friends with her,".

Kainaat smiled. "Hello, Sitara! I'm Kainaat. Pleasure to meet you!". The 2 girls looked at eachother, Sitara looked scared and terrified. She was an introverted girl and not a girl who would make friends that easily.

"Hi.. nice to meet you too," Sitara replied. "Come! Let's play with my toys." Kainaat exclaimed. Sitara hesitated but Mr and Mrs. Oberoi gestured for her to go.

A few hours later the 2 girls were playing in the living room with the dolls. "You're very funny, Kainaat." Sitara managed to say, "You remind of my brother."

"What's your brother's name? I would love to meet him!" Kainaat exclaimed but Sitara shook her head. "I don't remember anything except my name and how my brother is. I don't know his name, it starts with V though."

"Oh, but I hope you find him!" Kainaat replied. Sitara nodded, "Thanks, Kainaat. Let's countinue playing,". The girls giggled and chatted as they countinue playing with the toys.

A house in Delhi was quiet as 5 family members sat in the living room. 3 children were sitting on the sofa, the eldest a boy, the middle child a girl, and the youngest a boy.

The father sighed. "Vikas, why weren't you looking!? You are supposed to be looking all the time!" He said to the elder brother.

Vikas sighed. "Papa, I just got distracted. I'll go look for her I promise!". Their mother started crying and the younger brother consoled her.

The younger brother cried a little. "Mama, I loved her too. We will go find her I promise."

The sister looked at both of them. "But there is no hope, we lost her."

Vikas sighed again. "Look, I will try and get her back. I promise."

"Try, seriously?! She was my whole world! Literally, I wake up everyday thinking about her bhai. Bhai please..." the younger brother begged, he was around 13 to 14ish.

"Calm down! It's not easy to find a child on the run!" Vikas yelled back to him "She's only five!".

"Exactly, come on Virat, it isn't that easy!" The middle child yelled back. The father sighed. "Bhawna, Vikas, I know it isn't easy. You still have to go find our lovely girl,".

Virat nodded."Exactly! Well I can't come because of cricket practices, but you have to find Sita, please."

Vikas sighed. "Fine, I know you really miss her guys. I will try and get her back I promise."

Virat and their mother sobbed in the room. The room was somber, because the Kohli family lost their diamond, Sitara.
