chapter 2. the archer
"I've been the archer, I've been the prey
But who could ever leave me darling, who could stay?"
2009
Days passed, and they soon turned into weeks, months, and later 5 years. The Oberois lost hope, and decided to keep Sitara. The two girls were ten years old. The Oberois decided to move to their hometown, Mohali, because Mr. Oberoi got a good job there.
"Pack up kids!" Mrs. Oberoi yelled "We have to arrive at the train station by 10!". The TV was still on, a cricket match played on the TV. Mr. Oberoi was watching. A very young batsmen was crushing the bowlers in a serious match.
"Raju! Turn off the TV!" Mrs. Oberoi yelled from upstairs. "Arey! I'm watching cricket! One sec!" He yelled back.
"Ah whatever your name is... Virat Kohli. Just hit a damn six!".
Sitara and Kainaat came down with their bags while Mr. Oberoi was still watching the tv. "What are you watching chacha?" Sitara asked him.
"This is a cricket match, Situ. I'm watching this young batsman name Virat Kohli now!" Mr. Oberoi exclaimed. Sitara looked a little shook but shakes it off.
Sitara sighed. "I recognize the name Virat Kohli, but it's nothing.". Mr. Oberoi ignored her and still watched the match unfolding.
"RAJU! TURN THE TV OFF!" Mrs. Oberoi yelled again. Finally, Mr. Oberoi turned off the tv. "I wanted to keep watching the match, Virat plays very well." Sitara said.
Kainaat grabbed her bag. "I'm not into cricket, I only know Sachin Tendulkar though."
Sitara's head suddenly shot up. "I remember someone who always loved to play cricket, I forgot though."
It seems like they didn't hear her because they all sprinted to the door with their bags. Sitara followed them with her bag. They all got into the car which was very stuffed and drove to the train station.
"We're here!" Mr. Oberoi finally said as he got out of the car. The rest followed as they got out and took their bags. The rest was just passports and waiting, finally, they got onto the train to Mohali.
2 days later
The train finally arrived at the Mohali train station after two whole days. The family of four got out and waited for their cab.
"I'm so excited!" Kainaat exclaimed. "What about you, Sitara?".
Sitara managed to smile a little bit. "It's my first time traveling, I'm excited though!".
The cab finally came and it drove them to their new house which was not that far away, just 20 minutes.
"Wow, Punjab is beautiful..." Sitara murmured as she looked out the window.
Kainaat nodded. "I've been here once, but it's amazing! The food especially."
Finally, the car stopped at a big house where it was surrounded by trees. It looked mystical, except the house, which was a mansion.
"Wow..." Sitara murmured, "We're moving here chacha?". Mr. Oberoi nodded. "Yes, Situ. This is our new home!".
The unpacking took a while since there was a lot of stuff from Delhi, most of them were souvenirs. Sitara and Kainaat got big rooms which had a nice view.
"This is so big!" Kainaat exclaimed, "I can't wait to go to my new school, make friends, and find a boyfriend..."
"Ew, aren't we too young for boyfriends? We're only ten" Sitara replied with a disgusted tone. "So what, Situ? Age is just a number, we can have boyfriends at any age!" Kainaat replied with excitement.
Sitara rolled her eyes and scoffed. "And jail is just a place, Kai".
Kainaat frowned. "Hey! That's mean! We can have boyfriends! Love is love, we can love at any age we want!".
Sitara smirked and rolled her eyes again. "And water is water, drink it from the toilet!".
Mr. Oberoi entered and heard everything. "Situ, we don't say such things. And Kainaat, she's right. You can't have boyfriends at such young ages,"
"Papa! You too!" Kainaat groaned but Mr. Oberoi ignored her. "Come one Sitara, let's go to your room."
When Sitara walked out with Mr. Oberoi, Kainaat crossed her arms and frowned. She didn't look happy. Sitara wondered why, Kainaat and her were always in good terms playing with her.
Soon, the day ended with Sitara thinking about what she did wrong. Kainaat still played with her, but she didn't look as excited as before. Dinner was a bit quiet since Kainaat didn't talk as much as before. Sitara wonder is Kainaat jealous? Or is she mad about what I just said?
That question lingered in her head for a while until Mr. Oberoi decided to break the silence with school.
"So, you're going to your new school tommorow!" He exclaimed. "It's not that far away, and I heard it's very good."
"A new school? Really papa?!" Kainaat groaned and Mrs. Oberoi glared at her. "Yes, Kai" Mr. Oberoi countinued, "The Manav Mangal School is a very good school. It has very nice teachers."
"Ok? So what?" Kainaat asked. Sitara jumped in. "So we can get good education and get rich! Duh!".
Mr. Oberoi thanked Sitara and then looked over at Kainaat. "Exactly, thanks Situ. Kai, you should learn a thing or two from her."
"Now Raju, let's not compare. They are both good." Mrs. Oberoi said attempting to calm everything down. Kainaat didn't look happy and crossed her arms.
The dinner ended in silence and Kainaat slammed her room door. Sitara thought she did something wrong because she was very mad at her and Kai didn't talk to Sitara at all. The day ending with Sitara thinking of the same question over and over again.
