"Hold on," Blizzardpaw meowed, barring Dawnpaw's way with his tail. "You are a medicine cat apprentice with no warrior training. How do you think you will fight exactly?"
"Well..." Dawnpaw replied. "You taught me a few moves, so I thought I would test them out for real."
"Maybe Dawnpaw can stay behind and me and Blizzardpaw can attack the guards," Nightpaw suggested.
"Or maybe we could just not help this cat at all," Blizzardpaw spat. "She's a random rogue that we met in a sketchy place and we don't even know she is who she says she is. She could be playing us!"
Blizzardpaw made a good point - that being to never trust strangers - but Nightpaw felt that they at least had to give the she cat a chance. And that's exactly what she told Blizzardpaw.
"When we get captured and killed, make sure to remember it's your fault," Blizzardpaw growled, his ice blue eyes like icicles.
"And when we escape, having fulfilled a good deed, make sure to remember who didn't want to do it," Nightpaw countered, unsheathing her claws.
Blizzardpaw muttered something under his breath before turning to Dawnpaw.
"You can help Shadow escape," the grey tabby told her. "Don't get involved with fighting if you don't have to."
"I won't," Dawnpaw promised. "But if it comes down to it, I will have to."
"Let's hope it doesn't," Nightpaw said. "Blizzardpaw, you can take the blue tom and I'll take the dark tabby."
"Fine by me," Blizzardpaw meowed, swishing his tail. "Just don't get killed, because we won't be able to bury you."
Nightpaw suspected that he didn't want her to be killed because he had actually begun to think of her as a friend, but didn't push him any further.
"You underestimate the power of WindClan," Nightpaw grinned, flexing her claws. "Are you ready?"
"To shred some rogues? Of course I am," Blizzardpaw replied. "Let's go then."
The grey tabby let out a caterwaul before hurling himself onto the blue gray tom. Nightpaw launched her attack on the other guard soon after, not giving him enough time to react. She pinned the tabby to the ground, staring deep into his dark amber eyes.
He snarled and heaved the black she cat off himself. The dark grey tabby was quite bulky, giving him the advantage of strength. Nightpaw, however, had the advantage of agility.
"I bet you can't catch me!" She teased, leaping back as the tom struck out at her.
"I'll show you," he growled back, chasing after her as she made her way back towards the box cages.
She glanced back, expecting the guards from other cages to be following as well, but they were just watching the scene before them with mild interest, not lifting a paw to help her pursuer.
Nightpaw dodged as a claw whistled past her ear, narrowing avoiding it catching her ear.
The tom behind her growled in frustration and leaped towards her with surprising force. She tried to move out of the way, but wasn't fast enough and the tom landed directly on top of her.
"I've got you now," he growled, his amber eyes glinting in the meagre sunlight. "Now I'll have to take you to the boss."
"I don't think so," Nightpaw heard a voice nearby, and the weight was suddenly lifted.
In front of her, a smoky black she cat was hurling the tom against a nearby wall, a light brown tabby watching from a distance.
"This is for keeping me trapped," Shadow growled, hooking a claw into the tom's scruff and throwing him at the wall.
