Nightstorm sat with her tail curled neatly over her paws, surveying the group before her. Shadow was staring right back at her, confidence gleaming in her green eyes, whilst Spirit sat next to the smoky she cat, kneading his paws against the ground nervously. Snow sat next to them, flicking his tail from side to side slightly.
"We have gathered you here for a test," Dawnbreeze, who was seated next to her, began. "Well, Shadow and Snow are going to do a test. We are going to watch both of you hunting, and assess how much we need to teach you, if we need to teach you anything at all."
"Failing the test doesn't mean that you won't be able to join the Clan," Emberheart added. "It just means that you'll have a bit of learning to do."
Nightstorm stood up. "Besides, we all have some learning to do. I can catch rabbits, but not fish, for example."
Her gaze flicked to the stream, where Blizzardfrost could be just about seen through the trees fishing. The tom had claimed that he had 'no interest in watching two cats fail miserably whilst trying to catch prey.' However, Nightstorm privately thought that it had something to do with one of the two said cats being Snow, especially since they already knew Shadow could hunt anyway.
"What am I going to do?" Spirit squeaked.
"Blizzardfrost is going to teach you how to fish!" Emberheart replied, pointing his tail towards the stream.
"Cool!" Spirit replied, buzzing with a new energy. "When can we start?"
Dawnbreeze smiled slightly at the young tom. "Now, if you want."
They watched Spirit bound through the trees, and Nightstorm turned to Shadow and Snow as she saw him reach Blizzardfrost.
"Snow will be hunting that way," Nightstorm paused and flicked her tail towards the birch forest. "And Shadow will be hunting that way." This time, she pointed her tail towards the swamp. "At about sunhigh, you will switch areas, so Snow will be hunting in the swamp, and Shadow in the forest. Understand?"
Both cats in front of her gave a firm nod.
"You may start, then."
The cats bounded off in the two different directions, Shadow's pelt blending in with the murkiness of the near swamp and Snow's blending in with the bright white of the birch trees.
"Who wants to keep an eye on Snow?" Dawnbreeze broke the silence, nodding towards where the tom had went.
"I will," Emberheart offered.
The calico tom nodded a farewell before bounding after Snow, mouth slightly agape to follow the scent trail.
"One of us will have to stay with Blizzardfrost to make sure he treats Spirit... nicely, and the other can follow Shadow," Dawnbreeze meowed. "I should probably stay with Blizzardfrost because I'm not that good at tracking."
Nightstorm nodded in agreement. "I'll follow Shadow, then."
"Are you sure you don't want to spend more time with Blizzardfrost?" Dawnbreeze teased, flicking her tail lightly over Nightstorm's shoulder.
The black she cat felt her fur heating up with embarrassment.
"I'm sure." Nightstorm rolled her eyes and bounded off on the trail that Shadow had taken before Dawnbreeze could say another word.

Nightstorm crouched low to the ground, belly fur soaking into the slightly flooded ground of the swamp. She shuddered as the water seeped into her fur and the mud squished between her claws.
