As Niles mentioned Juliet's sister, a mix of emotions swirled inside her. She hadn't spoken to her sister in years, not since the incident that had driven them apart. But Niles's words made her realize that she had to confront the past if she was going to uncover the truth.
"Okay," she said finally, her voice firm. "Let's talk to her."
Niles nodded, his expression serious. "We'll go together," he said. "I want to be there when you talk to her."
Juliet nodded, feeling a sense of unease. She had no idea what her sister knew or what she might say, but she was determined to get to the bottom of things.
The two of them headed out of the apartment, Niles's car waiting outside. As they drove, Juliet couldn't help but think about her sister and their complicated past.
When they arrived at her sister's house, Juliet felt a knot in her stomach. She hadn't been here in years, and the memories came flooding back as they walked up the path.
Her sister answered the door, looking older and worn down. Juliet felt a pang of guilt for not staying in touch, but she pushed it aside. This wasn't about regret; it was about finding the truth.
"Hey," Juliet said, trying to sound casual.
Her sister looked at her carefully, clearly surprised to see her after all these years. "Juliet," she said finally. "It's been a long time."
Juliet took a deep breath and dove right in. "I know why I'm here," she said. "I need to know what you know about Levi."
Her sister's expression turned cautious, and Juliet knew she was in for a fight.
"I don't know what you're talking about," her sister said, her voice cold.
Juliet felt a feeling of frustration. "Don't play dumb," she said. "I know you know something. Tell me what it is."
Her sister sighed, looking tired. "Fine," she said finally. "I'll tell you what I know. But you have to promise me one thing: you have to promise me you'll listen and not get angry."
Juliet hesitated, unsure what her sister might say. But she knew she had to hear it, no matter how difficult it might be.
"I promise," she said finally.
And with that, her sister began to speak...
"I remember the day you told me about Levi," her sister said, her voice low and hesitant. "You were so scared, Juliet. You thought he was going to hurt you."
Juliet felt a shiver run down her spine as her sister's words brought back the memories of that day.
"What did I tell you?" Juliet asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her sister took a deep breath before continuing. "You told me that Levi had been following you, watching you, and that he had a fixation on you. You were convinced that he was going to do something to you."
Juliet's mind was racing as she tried to process what her sister was saying. "What did I do?" she asked, her voice growing more urgent.
"You...you disappeared," her sister said, her eyes filling with tears. "You just vanished, without a word. I thought you were gone for good."
Juliet felt a wave of guilt wash over her. She had been so scared, so ashamed, that she had abandoned her sister and run away from everything.
"But why did you stay silent?" Juliet asked, her voice heavy with regret.
Her sister looked at her with a mix of sadness and anger. "I stayed silent because I didn't know what to do," she said. "I didn't know how to help you, or how to make it right. And then...and then I got caught up in my own problems and I forgot about you."
Juliet felt a pang of sorrow for her sister, who had clearly been carrying the weight of their past for years.
"But what about Levi?" Juliet asked, trying to get back on track. "What do you know about him?"
Her sister's expression turned grim. "I know that he's not what he seems," she said. "He's got a dark past, Juliet. A very dark past."
Juliet felt a chill run down her spine as she realized that she had suspected it all along.
"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her sister hesitated before speaking. "I mean that Levi was involved in some bad things when he was younger," she said. "Things that could ruin his reputation, ruin his life."
Juliet's mind was racing with possibilities as she tried to piece together the puzzle.
"What kind of things?" she asked, her voice urgent.
Her sister's expression turned solemn. "Murder," she said quietly.
Juliet felt like she had been punched in the gut. Murder? Was this what Levi's obsession with her was all about?
"What do you mean?" she asked again, trying to keep her voice steady.
Her sister took a deep breath before speaking. "Levi was involved in a murder case when he was in college," she said. "A girl went missing, and they found out later that Levi had been seen arguing with her just days before she disappeared."
Juliet felt like she had hit rock bottom. This was it – the truth about Levi's past.
"Is he...is he capable of killing?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her sister nodded slowly. "I think he is," she said quietly. "I think he's capable of anything if it gets him what he wants."
Juliet felt a cold sweat break out on her forehead as she realized the true extent of Levi's obsession with her. She knew that she had to get away from him – and fast – before it was too late...
