Juliet's mind was racing as she tried to process the message from Levi. She didn't know what he wanted, but she knew she couldn't ignore it. She needed to figure out what was going on and why he was contacting her again.
She looked at Niles, who was watching her with concern. "I think we need to look into this," she said. "I don't know what Levi wants, but I have a feeling it's connected to my sister's death."
Niles nodded. "I agree. Let's start by going through your sister's files and seeing if there's anything that might give us a lead."
Juliet nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over her. She knew that finding out the truth about her sister's death would be a difficult and painful journey, but she was ready to face it head-on.
Together, they spent the next few hours poring over Juliet's sister's files and notes. They found a cryptic message that read: "They're watching us. Be careful."
Juliet felt a chill run down her spine as she read the words. Who was watching them? And why?
As they continued to dig deeper, they discovered that her sister had been investigating a conspiracy involving a local business owner named Marcus. Juliet had never met Marcus, but something about his name seemed familiar.
"I think we should pay him a visit," Niles said, his eyes locked on Juliet's.
Juliet nodded, her heart racing with anticipation. She knew that this could be the break they needed to uncover the truth about her sister's death.
Together, they set off to meet Marcus, determined to get answers.
As they arrived at Marcus's office, Juliet could feel the weight of the unknown pressing down on her. What would they find out? And what lay ahead for them?
As they entered Marcus's office, Juliet couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She glanced around the room, taking in the sleek, modern decor and the cold, calculating gaze of the man behind the desk.
"Can I help you?" Marcus asked, his voice dripping with condescension.
Juliet flashed her ID badge. "I'm Detective Juliet Thompson. I'm investigating a murder case, and your name came up in my sister's files."
Marcus's expression didn't change, but his eyes flickered with interest. "Ah, yes. Your sister. I knew her. We had... business dealings."
Juliet's instincts told her to be wary, but she pressed on. "What kind of dealings?"
Marcus leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "Let's just say we were partners in a little venture. But it ended badly. Your sister got cold feet and pulled out."
Juliet's grip on her notebook tightened. "What venture?"
Marcus smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "Just a little investment opportunity. Nothing to concern yourself with."
Juliet's eyes narrowed. "I think it's very much concerning me. Especially since my sister's death is connected to you."
Marcus shrugged. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Niles stepped forward, his eyes locked on Marcus. "Don't play dumb, Marcus. We have evidence that suggests your involvement in my sister's murder."
Marcus's mask slipped for a fraction of a second, revealing a glimmer of anger before he regained his composure. "I don't know what you're talking about," he repeated.
Juliet felt a surge of adrenaline as she pulled out her phone and dialed a number. "I think it's time we brought some backup," she said to Niles.
The sound of sirens echoed outside, and Juliet smiled grimly as she walked towards Marcus's desk. She knew that this was just the beginning of the truth coming to light.
"What do you say we take a little trip downtown?" she said, her voice low and deadly.
Marcus's eyes flashed with fear as he realized he was trapped. Juliet smiled again, her mind racing with the possibilities.
This was just the beginning of the game, and Juliet was ready to play.
