Five months later

It was late at night and the storm grew with each passing hour, thick, heavy flakes fell from the grey sky, blanketing the forest in a layer of white. The storm howled like a raging beast, it's roar punctuated by the soft thud of snow hitting the ground.

In the middle of the storm, a young girl trudged slowly, the weight of the snow kept dragging her down. Her flimsy cloth did little to nothing in keeping the cold out, it stung her skin that was a sickly shade of white, almost the colour of the snow. Her eyes, the colour of the stormy clouds prickled with frozen tears but she didn't seem to mind continuing her journey through the mountain's forest.

She walked down for a long while unaware of how much time had passed. When she could no longer walk, she crouched down beside a tree; which wasn't much of a shade. The snow swirled in the wind around her like a thousand tiny ballerinas. Wrapping her hands around her knees, she folded into herself.

And the storm raged on and on, until finally in the early hours of the morning, it went still letting silence take over. Tiny flakes fell from the sky; a sort of peace after the storm, she raised her head up and watched it mesmerized as they fell and melted on her skin.

A beam of light suddenly shone towards her which made her squint, slowly she stood up using her hands to shield her eyes. The vehicle came to a stop few metres in front of her, and a man jumped down with a soft thud on the snow covered floor.

"What're you doing out here? Are you okay?" he called out to her.

She tried to talk, but her lips felt too heavy. Hearing no response from her, the man walked towards her, till he stood just a few steps away from her. She dropped her hands and looked up at him, the badge in his officer's uniform shone.

The man stared at her for a while with confusion on his face, then the confused look changed to a stunned one, "Brynn Kane? Is that you?"

He peered closely at her, scrutinizing and searching, he seemed to have found what he was looking for when his mouth opened wide.

"What's going on there, James?" another man from the vehicle called out.

"Sir, it's, it's Brynn Kane. Heavens! She's alive." James let out in a rush as he ran back to the vehicle.

His counterpart got down from the vehicle; his badge also shining radiantly, and walked to her, "What nonsense are you spewing now—" he cut short when he saw her, her wide eyes staring back at him. "Brynn. Kane." he spelled out.

The young girl nodded, "Yes I am Brynn. But why are you both so shocked to see me?" she looked around, at the massive heap of snow over the mountain's forest, "and, any idea how I got here?"

The two men exchanged strange looks between themselves.

"Start the truck James," the second man ordered, "let's get you somewhere warm." he said to her.

Brynn didn't move an inch, her eyes moving from the truck to the man and back again.

He raised both his hands out, "I know you're scared, but I promise we're safe." with one hand he brought out a card from his pocket, "here's my ID." Brynn took the card from him and accessed it. "I'm a police officer, James too. You can trust us."
