Chapter 24

Sage's POV

I'm woken abruptly out of my sleep by my mum shouting my name. I struggle to keep my eyes open.

'Sage honey wake up the shop is on fire'. My mom says in a panic.

I jump out of bed at the same time saying 'WHAT'. I quickly start pulling on my sweatpants and oversized hoodie as my mom explains to me what's happened.

'So, Mrs Park called me and said that her and her boyfriend were picking up take out from JOY's when they sore yellow and orange flights in the distance and then heard and explosion'. She huffs out all in one breath.

'Oh my gosh, was anyone hurt'. I stand there in shock. I pick up my phone to see the time and its midnight, I also see a text from Micah. I decided to look at it later.

'I don't think so, but we need to go'. My mom shouts as she heads down the stairs. I slip on my vans and run after her.

She picks up her keys and we head out the door.

'Wait mom where are we going'. I asked confused getting in her car.

'We're going to the police station Chrissy is there and he needs our support'. My mom responds.

I sit back in my seat wondering what could have happened, if anyone got hurt what's going to happen to Chrissy and the shop.

As me and mom walk into the police station, we her Chrissy shouting.

'This town has gone to pots, it uses to be such a nice place to live and now... oh gosh I cannot cope' Chrissy exhales as he flops down in his seat in the waiting area with detective Dawson.

Mom and I share a look as we walk hesitantly towards Chrissy and Detective Dawson.

'Chrissy' My mom says in a low voice.

Both Chrissy and Detective Dawson look in our direction.

'Oh Priya, Sage thank you for coming. Can you believe this. First, we have a string of murders, that rude girl Bailey who insulted my shop goes missing and now someone has set my shop on fire. It's just so much and what are the police doing about it. NOTHING'. Chrissy yells breathing heavily.

'Mr Wax please can you keep your voice down, we are doing everything we can. When you arrived, I was told that the firemen had put out the fire and Detective Townsend is investigating the scene as we speak'. Detective Dawson explains.

Chrissy rolls his eye at Dawson words. As me and mom take a seat across from them, Dawson's phone rings.

'Sorry I have to take this, I will be right back'. Dawson utters walking away from us.

'Oh, Chrissy I'm sorry this has happened to you I know how proud you were of the shop. Maybe you can rebuild'. I say nervously not sure what the best words are to say to make him feel better.

'Yeah maybe'. Chrissy says looking broken.

As I try to find the words to comfort him Dawson walks back over to use looking frustrated.

'That was Detective Townsend on the phone'. He states.

'And' we all say at the same time.

Deceive Dawson takes a breath before relaying the information he just obtained back to us.

'We found a body' He states.

Me and mom gasps

'See I told you this town has gone to fucking pots' Chrissy exasperates.
