Ikshita pov
The car hummed steadily as Aakarsh drove. His eyes never left me, not even for a second, and I could feel the heat of his gaze crawling under my skin. I hugged my mango juice closer, pretending not to notice the way his jaw tightened every time I shifted in my seat.
I knew exactly how clever that ass thinks he is. Whatever twisted tricks his brain cooks up, they won't work on me. Hah. Asshole.
I was busy preparing my mental armour—sharpening my tongue, rehearsing all the ways I'd stab his ego—when his sharp, annoyingly sexy voice sliced through the cold AC air of the car.
"Why the hell do you want to go to Ajmer?" he asked suddenly. Short. Sharp. Dangerous. Like he had every right to question my existence.
I raised a brow, slow and deliberate, letting a smirk pull at my lips because I knew it irritated him to his soul. "Because I want to see around," I said sweetly, "and observe the cultural depth of my country."
The lie was so obvious even the car probably groaned.
He snorted—an infuriating, dismissive sound—still not sparing me a glance. "Wrong answer."
The way he said it... Like he could see straight through me. Like he was already two steps ahead, waiting for me to slip.
And like hell I'd give him that satisfaction.
"Oh, big man was hoping for a correct one," I teased, leaning slightly closer, letting the smallest bit of my perfume reach him. "Do you give out correct answers often, or just threats?"
His hand tightened slightly on the wheel. "Sometimes threats work better."
I laughed lightly. "Lucky for you, I'm not scared of your empty threats."
He finally looked at me, dark eyes sharp and calculating. "Not scared, huh? Funny."
"Do you like funny?" I shot back, tilting my head. "Or do you only like girls who tremble when you stare at them?"
I know what he is doing very well, he wants me to give surrender and reply to him. But no i wont be doing this.
A smirk flickered on his lips. "Trembling is optional."
I almost rolled my eyes. Men. Always thinking they were the predators. "Good to know. "Because I bite." The words slipped out of me like a challenge, sweet and sharp at the same time.
He leaned in—just a little, just enough for the air to thicken—his voice dropping into that low growl he uses when he wants to corner me without touching me. "Tell me something real, Ikshita. Why Ajmer?"
