When she woke up, her fears and self-defense mechanisms took over again. She struggled to free herself. The veins in her neck bulged. And the color of the atmosphere became embroiled and fiery. I want my clothes, damn you. Whoever you are.
Clickety – I want my clothes – clickety – whoever you are – clickety, they said.
We know you, Julie. We have chosen you, said the voice becoming more like one voice than many together.
You gonna rape me?
You gonna rape me, they said.
Julie, the voice said.
I want my clothes, please.
Your clothes will not be needed. Are you cold?
At the mention of the word, her nipples became erect, and she blushed as if the first time. Instinctively, she covered herself.
The static roared in approving waves and the light became cheerful, and bright. They were tickled.
Glad you like it, she said. For now, Julie had been freed to move about, the feeling of being trapped in jelly gone. She remained weightless, and the movement of hiding her breasts sent her body turning head over heels in slow motion. She spent several minutes like this flailing her arms until she stopped spinning and remained still. Where the hell am I, she said.
Safe for now, said the voice. Are you fertile Julie?
Huh?
Sexually receptive, ovulating.
Oh shit, she said, I knew it. You are going to rape me.
The voice explained to Julie that their intentions were quite the opposite. They would do nothing to her but they would do something with her. She was naked for a reason and she wouldn't need clothing where she was going. They were sending her, they explained in a drone voice, to a place before Gucci and Sears.
The voice that spoke to her never came from the same direction but moved sporadically, just as the static voices and lights did.
Julie.
Um, she said.
We are from another world, another galaxy far away. A galaxy known as Taso in an area called the CLG J02182-05102 Cluster. We come from a planet that in your future will be called Orius 15.
While the voice talked, she was shown images of the stars as if she were traveling through space. The 3-D images took her from her birdbath into the night sky. Higher she climbed into the upper atmosphere. She could see in a panoramic view of Texarkana, then Dallas, in no time she could see the west coast and then the entire continent and on out into outer space.
Here, our imagination takes over and we try to imagine what is happening to Julie. They know that out there in the Borealis there is magic and wonderment, and the spirits rule the universe, and we in our little world have no idea what it can be like except for what Julie told us and we listen in reverence, to this part.
As she soared through our solar system and out into the Milky Way galaxy past sounds of our Earth's history still making their way through the deep black sea. From computer-generated media, and man-made nuclear signals to television broadcasts. Back further to radio and cinema sounds and images.
She was passing these electronic memories of ours as they traveled through space, some at the speed of light. On out into the depths of space. And further back in time, the signals went; electricity, telegraph, and on. Back beyond our electronic past, when sounds and images still traveled through the vacuum of outer space because of the innate energy from which everything is made.
