Malakai

He never once looked back as soon as Calia Nox decided to let him go. But he needed to rest as he realized he was slowing down minute after minute. Malakai stopped and leaned on the edge of a tree branch while he glanced around to see where he might be. After a second or so, he peered into the distance and saw he was on the outskirts of Ambrosia. He swore under his breath because this was the last place where he wanted to be—as he was now a wanted Vampire on the run.

As soon as he turned around, he jumped when he glanced at the other man standing before him. His hands were in his pockets as he angled his head at Malakai. "Can you be any less creepy, Blackwood?" he growled.

"Can you be any less of a nuisance, boy?" he retorted.

Malakai glared at him as the night sky blossomed over them both, and he wondered how the professor had found him. He was breathing hard from the amount of running he was doing for a few hours, and he desperately needed a drink once he found a safe house. "I'm guessing you found out what happened?"

"Oh, that you failed at your mission?" Blackwood questioned. "He's going to be upset when he finds out, you know."

"Yeah, yeah," Malakai waved his hand as if he didn't have a care in the world. But in reality, he did care...about a lot of things. He was hurt when his Father didn't want to come back from the dead and get to know Malakai. But more so, he liked Calia way more than he cared to admit. She was brave and resilient—more than he could ever be. "What is he going to do?"

Blackwood raised a brow. "Don't underestimate the Brotherhood. They are far more dangerous than an ordinary Vampire like you."

"And how exactly did you join this special club?"

Malakai watched as he clenched his jaw, not wanting to share his story with him or anyone else for that matter. He was a mystery even during meetings. "Like I would ever tell you. I have no idea why he let you in the Brotherhood as you are such a fucking loose cannon," Blackwood smacked his lips together as he removed his hands from his pockets and curled them behind his back. "I'm here to pick up the pieces."

He blinked, and a pair of cuffs wrapped around his wrists. A pair of Vampire guards held onto him, and as much as Malakai tried to fight them off, his strength remained dormant due to the cuffs. Blackwood stepped back as he curled his lips into a cruel smile, leading Malakai to widen his eyes at the scene. "You fucking set me up!" he snarled. "I will kill you! I will tell everyone about you and the whole fucking club."

"Not if you don't want your head on a spike, Malakai," he threatened. "Happy rotting in the dungeons for the rest of your days. I'm sure your dead Father will be pleased to see you actually accomplished something."

"Fuck you!" Malakai yelled as the soldiers dragged him away from the Professor. "Calia will never forgive you for this."

Blackwood barked out a malicious laugh. "She's his daughter. Once she finds out, she'll have more to worry about than me." Once he uttered the words, Malakai paled. The leader never mentioned that he was hunting his own daughter in all of their meetings, but maybe that was why he was so determined to get to Calia.

"C'mon, prisoner," one of the soldiers barked as he pushed Malakai further away from where Blackwood stood. Eventually, he was forced to turn around and walk the other way. Malakai stayed silent as he was pushed into the steel truck and fell into one of the seats. The other soldier who cuffed him closed the door on him, and a few seconds later, they began driving, no doubt to Hellebore Penitentiary.

His new home.

Great.

One day, whether tomorrow or centuries from now, Malakai Riviera will take vengeance on the Brotherhood for their betrayal.

It was a promise.
