Once upon a time, when little Calia Nox was four years old, she had a nightmare and couldn't go back to sleep. She quietly went to her mother's bedroom and woke her up because of the monsters crawling under her bed. Her eyes were glassy with tears, but her mother soothed her and said, "C'mon, lay with me tonight, and I'll tell you a bedtime story."

"What kind?" she asked.

"A good one," her mama replied. She covered Calia with a fuzzy blanket and wiped the tears falling down her face. "There once was a powerful goddess exiled to an island because she supported the wrong side in an ancient war. She had the power to manipulate storms within her hand, making her dangerous to the other Gods. She was all alone on the island and had no companions to call her own. That is, until one fateful night, she had an idea."

"What was it?" Calia whispered.

"If she couldn't have any companions, then she would make one. After all, she was a goddess; one of her powers was creation. With the help of her lightning and blood and the power of the sea, she could create not just one companion but thousands. This species was special as they didn't have round ears, but pointy ones as they shared the same abilities as the goddess." her mama paused, caressing Calia's cheek. "They were called sea nymphs. Nereidă. As time passed, the goddess and nymphs lived harmoniously on the island. That was until her father found out and forced the goddess back to her homeland, leaving the nymphs alone for the first time since their creation. They learned to adapt and eventually build a Kingdom with a strong army and the sea as their fortress. They never forgot their creator's name; every night, they would pray to her alone."

"What was her name, mama?"

"Her name is the same as yours, sweetheart," she answered. "I named you after the powerful goddess."

"She was Calypso!" Calia said brightly.

Her mama laughed. "Yes, the goddess was named Calypso, and for centuries, she was forgotten by the human population and to some Gods. But never to us because she gave us her strength and kindness. She will be in our hearts even when we are lost to the sea."

Calia laid her eyes on the pillow and began closing them, but she still wanted to hear the rest of the story. "Tell me more, mama," Even if sleep invaded her brain, her mind conjured up question after question.

"The sea nymphs and fae were allies for a long time, as they agreed to share their magic with each other. But the fae became greedy of the magic in nymphs' blood over the years and demanded more, but they refused and cut off the fae. For five years, the nymphs and fae fought battle after battle until, eventually, the nymphs realized their numbers were declining drastically. You see, the fae were selfish creatures who would do anything for more power, so they created a plan to destroy the nymphs while stealing all of their magic blood. Their ally invaded their Kingdom and ended them, starting with the women and children and ending with the royal family. But don't fret; the King had a plan. Before he lost his life, he gave all the power to his daughter, who escaped the brutality of the Fae. Generation after generation, there had been one last living nymph, and she was powerful enough to destroy everything she had ever lost. There might be danger out there wanting her magic, but she is much stronger than they ever will be, and it makes them afraid."

"Will the nymph kingdom ever come back?" Calia whispered.

"Maybe," her mama replied. "I hope so," After a few minutes, she began to doze off with the comfort of her mama beside her. When she was close to falling asleep, her mama murmured in her ear. "This is your story, my lovely Calia. You are more powerful than you think."

Little Calia fell asleep with her mother's soothing voice, forgetting the story she told her after he woke up in the morning. Not until years later, at sixteen years old, will she remember it.
