She hurries downstairs, stuffing her shirt into her pants as she grabs her to-go cup with her free hand. She almost trips over her shoes as she rushes to the door. She’s late. On the first day of her new job.

Emma appears at the doorstep of the Boston police station - breathless. She takes a deep breath, smooths her hands over shirt. She clears her throat one more time while pushing the doors open.

The station seems busy as she walks towards the counter, where a tall woman dressed in a police uniform is standing.

“Hey, my name is Emma Swan and I should report for duty to,” she looks at her papers. “Captain Nolan?”

The woman looks at her computer and starts smiling. “Oh, you’re the new one. I’m Ashley and we’ll be great friends!”

Emma’s surprised but relieved. Because Ashley makes this a lot easier. “Well, I can’t wait, Ashley.”

“Go upstairs, second floor, walk straight ahead and the last door on the left, that’s where you find David Nolan.”

The blonde nods, smiles one last time at her new friend and takes the stairs instead of the elevator.

Her heart is beating fast, when she arrives on the second floor and while she searches for her papers in her bag, she hears a door open.

She lifts her head and suddenly she’s captivated; time slows down when she sees…. her. She walks along the corridor, her dark brown hair bouncing slightly, her lips painted red. The tight dark jeans hug her in all the right places. The first two buttons undone on her light blue blouse.

Emma swallows….and she’s aware that she’s staring. But she’s mesmerized. The brunette furrows her brow slightly as she walks by, her eyes on Emma.

The blonde snaps her mouth shut and blinks several times. She manages to nod jerkily in greeting.

The other woman vanishes into a room and she feels like she can breathe again.

“Oof…” she says out loud and hurries towards the room where Captain Nolan should be. She raises her hand and knocks two times.

“Come in!”

Emma opens the door and smiles at the tall, blond man. “Hello, I’m Emma Swan.”

He returns the smile and points at a chair next to the desk. “Emma, please take a seat.”

“I hope your relocation from Tallahassee to Boston has been pleasant?”

Emma smiles and nods, “Yes, it was no problem. Thank you for checking in.”

Emma used to work at the Narcotic Division in Tallahassee, until she put in a transfer to Boston.

“Now, you worked narcotic but wished to be transferred to intelligence. May I ask why?”
