Kathryn is stunned. She blinks a few times, processing what Emma just said. She runs a hand through her long hair. “You are in love with Regina?”

Emma exhales loudly and squeezes her eyes shut. “It’s too soon to say, but my feelings towards her are definitely not just friendly.”

Kathryn takes a seat next to her and sighs. “I should be kind of bummed out, because I really thought we’d have the potential to become more. But I can’t, for the life of me, because you’re just so honest and real.”

Emma blushes slightly and sighs, closing her eyes briefly. Thankfully it seems like Kathryn isn’t taking it all too hard.

“Maybe this is too forward,” Kathryn starts. “But I don’t know if Regina is into women? I’ve only seen her date men.”

Emma rubs a hand along her neck and falls back against the couch. “I know and even if she’s into women, I don’t think I have a chance. I just wanted to tell you, so things are honest and open. I don’t want to drag you along, while I’m secretly thirsting after Regina - your best friend no less.”

Kathryn chuckles and wraps an arm around her shoulder. “I’m really thankful that you told me. You spared me some heartache.”

Emma raises an eyebrow and looks at Kathryn. “Were you really that interested in me?”

“Yes, I mean why not? You’re an interesting person, funny and very attractive.”

The blonde blushes and looks at her hands.

“Do you want something to drink?”

“Oh yeah,” Emma breathes and smiles at Kathryn. “A beer would be great.”

Regina seems more stressed than usual when Emma arrives at work. She’s on her phone constantly, cursing and pacing the department hall. She didn’t even greet Emma on her way in.

The blonde enters the kitchen and smiles at August, who’s preparing himself a coffee.

“What’s with Regina?” Emma asks nonchalantly as she takes a cup.

“She wants to enroll Henry in a music school. It’s probably the best in the country, so of course spots are very limited.”

“And she can’t go there, because she has to be at work, right?”

“Yeah, although she could take the morning off. But she’s got an important appointment regarding your crypto case, so it’s not possible.”

Emma bites her lower lip and sighs as she pours herself a coffee. Regina is the leading detective on this case and Emma is still a newbie in Boston. So there’s no way that she could convince the brunette to let her go to this appointment.
