“....she only said ‘good’ and left?”

“Yes!” Emma paces Kathryn’s living room and nods as she runs a hand through her hair. “You know I made peace with the fact that there would never be anything between us. That she wasn’t into me like that. Just for her to…to…” Emma splutters and closes her eyes.

“How was the kiss?”

“It was fucking amazing. I now know what it’s like to kiss her, what she tastes like. This is horrible, Kathryn. How am I going to go back to the office tomorrow and face her?”

“Emma, do you regret the kiss?”

“No, of course not. But I don’t know why she kissed me. I guess I’m afraid of Regina going back to being bitchy and acting like a stranger towards me.”

“Have you considered that she might be into you as well?”

Emma snorts.

Kathryn rubs a hand along her neck and looks at Emma.

Three weeks ago

Kathryn stares at her confused and utterly surprised.

“Let me get this straight, okay? You have a date but instead of going to the date you stopped here. But why exactly?”

Regina squirms uncomfortably as she bites her lower lip and looks anywhere but at Kathryn. She knows she can trust her friend and Kathryn wouldn’t judge her. But it’s still not easy talking about it.

“Because I don’t want to go on this date, agreeing to it was stupid in the first place. But I can’t go home, because Emma’s there watching Henry and I don’t want to explain to her what is going on.”

“Can you explain to me?” Kathryn probes carefully.

The brunette sighs quietly and smoothes a hand over her dress.

“I think I’m falling in love with Emma,” she whispers and winces. “And this can’t happen, Kathryn.”

Kathryn releases a breath she’s been holding and takes a seat next to her friend. “Why can’t this happen?”

“Because she’s my partner and I swore to myself that I’ll never allow someone to get close to me. It’s bad enough that she’s bonded with Henry, but still manageable.”

Kathryn knows her friend and she knows if Regina has something set in her mind, there’s no going back.

“And this is even worse, because I have romantic feelings for her. I mean, Daniel was only a friend, but still.”
