Destination: NYC

You might be wondering, Y/n, why are you eating a deli sandwhich while sitting on the fire escape of some old abandoned building?

"Hey stranger, what are you doing here all alone?"

That's why.

I turned around startled, Spider-Woman.

"Woah! You okay?"

"Who are you?" I asked as I got up stepping back and almost tripping off the fire escape, she grabbed my arms and held me before I could fall.

I stared at her in shock.

"Hey," she said with a chuckle, we were very close. "I'm Spider-Woman." "Y/n." I replied as she let go once she knew I was safe.

I sat down and stared at the view, "Do you always wear that weird mask?" I asked. She looked at me as I opened a bag of chips. "Not always." "Good, it's creepy. Like two big saucers staring at me." "Do you fear aliens?" She asked, I turned to look at her with my eyes widened, "Based on earlier. I think it's safe to say they terrify me."

I offered a chip, "Those are my favorite, but can't reveal myself." "Understood." I said as I popped one in my mouth.

"How are you feeling from earlier?" She asked.

I sighed and closed my eyes.

"You don't know me and I don't know why I'm saying this but in Texas, the only thing I have to worry about is a deer. Not an alien. And we don't have cosplayers who web around the place." She laughed at my comment. "I take it you're new?" She asked, she already knew that though.

"Yeah, came a few days ago." "Do you miss it?" She asked.

I turned to look at her, "Do you not miss a normal life? Where nothing insane like this happens?" I asked, "You'd be surprised to know that I kind of enjoy this life. But there's a lot of consequences from it." She said as she hugged her legs tighter towards herself.

I knew what she means.

"How so?" I asked.

"I don't have time to make friends, I hardly see my parents, and- well, I think love life is obvious." I giggled at her comment.

"You're laughing now but you have no idea how lonely life can be."

Oh Gwen, I do.

"Even though I'm not some masked weirdo, I do know what you mean." I said. "I'm nowhere near my parents." Well weirdly it is the truth, "And I never know who I can trust." True also.

"As for love..."

I looked at the city, the sound of the cars being chaotic were somehow white noise, the bright lights were nice too, it reminded me of home.

"Well I don't believe in it."

Gwen remained silent for a moment, "Really?" She questioned.

I laughed, "Yeah. I don't really have time for it."

"So you've never had feelings for anyone?" She asked, I thought about it for a second, have I?

"There was this one girl, Quinn." I remembered.

"I'm not really a friendly type at school, I didn't associate with anyone. She was the basketball player, everyone admired and loved her. So one day when I'm walking out, she calls my name to work on a project."

Gwen looked at me carefully as if to see if I was heartbroken or anything.

"We didn't work on a project at all. We just... fooled around."

"So were there any feelings envolved?" Gwen asked.

I shook my head, "She told me she was in love with me. But I felt bad, I'm not meant to be with anyone to be honest. "

I finished my sandwhich and turned away to not face her.

"I use to like someone." She began.

"But he... is occupied with his job, and so am I."

"If you guys like each other, why didn't you try to get together?" I asked as I turned to face her again.

"I guess... I wasn't meant to be with anyone." She said.

Even with her mask on, I felt her deep stare into my eyes.

"What did you like about them?" I asked as I took a sip from my drink.

"He was the first person I shared something in common with. We were both occupied with our jobs, yet the times we had each other we understood each other." Gwen turned to look at me.

"Why couldn't you like the girl?" She wondered.

I thought about it for a second and looked at my hands, "She looked at me with a look I hardly see, she saw something in me others couldn't, she swore that she would understand me if I let her in. But I couldn't."

I remembered the exact way her eyes would light up when they met with mine.

Gwen's eyes were directed at mine even when I wasn't looking, like if she was studying me.

"You know, we're very alike."

I turned to look at Gwen, "Why's that?"

"We aren't meant to be with anyone."

I stared at her in silence, feeling my heart beat speed up.

"I guess we are very alike, Spider-woman."

"You got that right."

"What's the whole ideal thing with being spider-woman?"

"I save lives."

"And who looks out for yours?" I questioned.

"You're a very intriguing person, Y/n."

"You know I can never do what you do. I have enough on my hands, worrying about other people..." is also my job.

"It gives me a sense of happiness and relief to know I completed these things. One step closer to helping this world be better." I nodded as if I understood.

I didn't though.

I did the complete opposite.

The more I spoke to Gwen this night, I knew she was better than me. But I have to do what I do. And I don't feel bad about it.
