Here she was outside the front of the studio, out of breath and sweating like crazy. But she was on time. She took a minute to compose herself before pushing open the doors to move inside.
"Ah! Welcome!" Teto was greeted by a soft yet upbeat voice of a girl around her 20s. Her freckled face was full of cheerfulness and a certain calm aura surrounded her. She wore a bright green and white diner outfit with two small red bows on each side of her shoulder length black hair. Sapphire blue eyes looked her over before lighting up. "Oh, you must be Teto! It's a pleasure to meet you, my name is Avanna." The girl extended her hand.
Teto smiled and reciprocated the gesture, shaking hands with who she assumed was her interviewer. "It's a pleasure to meet you too! Thank you for giving me this opportunity!"
Avanna laughed softly. "Of course! We're always so excited for the chance to have a new performer around!" She then waved for Teto to follow her. "Let's go sit down over here."
Teto took the chance to glance around the studio as they changed rooms. A large green screen covered most of the area, along with lots of equipment. And unlike any studio she had seen before, this one was decorated head to toe with several bright and eye bleeding colors. The reason why? That sure stumped her. Usually studios were painted black or at least one color, nothing at all like this. On the far side of the room, a boy with messy red hair seemed to be fixing some of the machinery. She was a bit surprised how it all fit, considering how the room was so packed.
Once they were situated in another room, the questions came rolling in. Teto tried her best not to fidget, not letting her nerves get the best of her. There's no reason I wouldn't get this job, not with my rising popularity. They'll want me for whatever role they need. She silently reassured herself.
"So Teto, what influenced you to pursue this type of career?"
"How much experience do you have with acting?"
"What was your longest running role on stage?"
"How flexible is your schedule?"
Teto had answers for all of Avanna's questions, and she slowly but surely felt herself start to relax. It wasn't too hard once she had gotten into the feel for it, after all, acting was her passion ever since being a little kid.
Although after a while, Avanna started to ask some trickier and even.. stranger questions..?
"That's all very well and good!" Avanna nodded with a kind smile before continuing. "But... just how far would you go to understand your role? Your character? Would you do anything?"
"Well.. I wouldn't say I would do anything... it really would depend on the role, right?"
"But.. if you truly wanted to know what that role was like.. to understand it.. to be it.." Avanna went on. "...would you?"
Teto raised an eyebrow but only repeated what she said before. Maybe she's testing me.. somehow..?? Teto thought that would be the end of that question, but apparently it was not.
Avanna continued to survey her, scrutinizing even. "And... to become the role... What would you do? Would you even be open to... different techniques? How much would you do.. anything?"
Why does she keep asking this question?? Teto tilted her head. "I.. I wouldn't do anything, but I would try to prepare to be as in character as I can..." Is she looking for specific examples?? What am I supposed to say here!! She thought with a growing feeling of unease.
"I see.." Avanna nodded again before asking an equally strange question. "Have you ever felt so connected to music that you felt like you were in a different place and time? In another world?"
Why would she even need to know that? Is it just one of those weird interview questions again that's completely irrelevant?? Teto inwardly sighed, a bit annoyed but still politely answered, "I mean... I'm not sure. I don't think I ever have..?"
"Have you, maybe let's say.. fallen into a trance before?"
"Um.. no..??" Now this was just so weird! What is she doing, trying to find out if I'll fall asleep in the middle of an act or something??
Avanna nodded again and there was a silence that hung in the air that made Teto shift with unease. Was she supposed to say something else? She opened her mouth but Avanna was already getting ready to respond. "I just have one last question... What aspects do you find particularly entrancing or captivating? Almost.. mesmerizing even?"
Teto blinked. What was this girl even talking about now?? "About music, or performing, or...??"
Only round blue eyes stared back at her, an unnaturally calm aura about them that involuntarily made Teto slightly shiver. She scratched the back of her head. "Sorry, I don't think I'm understanding the question..."
Avanna snapped out of her staring trance and laughed like nothing had ever happened. "That's alright!" She said cheerfully, not bothering to elaborate what she had meant.
Another beat of silence. What was up with this interview...
"You're hired!"
"Huh!? I am??" Well that was sudden! She already decided on it??? How??? Not that Teto was complaining...
"Yep! You'll start tomorrow!"
Teto's eyes widened. That was an even bigger surprise! "Oh uh, alright..! So what time are the auditions?"
"There aren't any!"
"Oh?" Teto blinked. "Then what-"
"Here's your script!" Avanna interrupted, handing over a sheet of paper that came out of the middle of nowhere.
Teto flipped it over and then back to the front again. This was just leaving her more and more perplexed. "It's only one page?"
"Oh yes." Avanna grinned. "The rest will come to you naturally."
The rest will come naturally?? At this point, she had so many questions. How would she do this? Were there any contracts for her to sign or at least there had to be-
Before she could ask anything, she was already shoved out the door. "Can't wait to work with you!! Make sure to read over your script as much as possible!! See you later!!" Avanna waved with a smile then closed the door.
Teto was having her doubts now... should she really take this job? But then again, this was one of the most notorious and successful studios in the country. She had to take the offer, even if Avanna was a bit on the strange side. Surely everyone else would be less.. odd.. right? One person shouldn't deter her from taking the job after all.
