<Rose's POV> written by KeephieMalfoy
Slinging my neon backpack over a shoulder, I smooth out my black liquid tights and my black camel vest and tank. My neon accessories keep it balanced.
"Ciao, Bella!" A handsome Italian man named Mr. Kingsleigh blows a kiss to his daughter.
"See ya, Dad!" Rose yells back, the double doors swinging shut behind her.
Rose thinks to herself furiously, 'I seriously hate my stepmom. She's always criticizing whatever I do. Whether it's the grades I have, which aren't good because of my dam dyslexia, my friends, my style, or... sometimes the weird trouble I get into. Bet she only married dad because he's an Italian model.'
Once, in third grade, Rose was blamed for turning the walls pink with flowers on them. (A call to her stepmom followed consequently. And Rose got grounded for three months.)
Then four years ago, in fifth grade, Rose was blamed, yet again, for making a flowery pink mist appear in the classroom, which made the teacher swoon and start ranting about her crush on the principal. (Followed by a warning, a call to her stepmom about using unauthorized substances, and a lingering awkwardness between the principal and the teacher- who resigned later out of embarrassment.)
Odd things always happen to Rose, Milo, and Calla.
Rose mutters to herself angrily as she sets her skateboard down on the pavement, closing the gate. As she left the bright and expansive manor, her green eyes glinting dangerously behind her long eyelashes.
"Rose! Why do have darn dyslexia? You could do so well! You should have gotten better marks!" she mocks her stepmom while taking a shortcut into the alleyway, "Rose? Why are you always hanging out with those weird kids that get you into trouble? OH SHUT UP YOU - AAAAAAH!"
Rose falls off her skateboard (a rare incident) as she collides with a giant dog the size of a bull.
She whimpers and curses, staring open-mouthed at the dog.
"What in the.." she grabs her skateboard and backs away, regretting that she took the alleyway shortcut.
"Am I hallucinating? ... Back! Heel, boy!" she says, trying to get it away from her, though she doubted that the elephantine dog would listen.
And yes, the creature most certainly did not listen, but instead growls, pawing the ground ferociously.
"Go back to where you came from! It ain't Halloween punk!" She yells, taking her chances and flinging her precious skateboard at it, her only hope of stalling it. It was a gift from her mother, her dad told her, given to her as her mother left after she was born.
But she never met her mother before.
Anger surged through her veins as she thought unhappily about her imperfect life.
The creature lets out a high-pitched whine as the skateboard collides with it.
Instead of hearing the sound of the skateboard hitting the dog, Rose hears a metallic clang.
Stunned, the next thing she knows: the dog vaporizes into thin air, leaving golden dust on the ground.
"How in the world.." Rose looks at her undamaged skateboard, with awe. "No, no, no..not again.."
Every weird thing that happens to her is usually in school... But now she's experiencing weird things... Outside of school... Unbelievable...
She takes a shaky breath, smoothes her shiny black hair, dusts off her tights and jacket, grabs her skateboard, and runs.
She runs and doesn't look back.

Time skip to when she reaches school
Rose tucks her hair behind her ears and pushes the door to her classroom open. Milo stares at her, out of his blue eyes, appalled at the time she arrives. Calla frantically gestures to Rose to sit next to her, her purse reserving the seat.
"Late, Ms. Kingsleigh," Ms. Seraphina Whitmore purses her lips and glares at Rose. With her dark brown hair pulled neatly into a complicated twist, and her spotless white dress, and heavy make-up she makes for an imposing figure. "Detention after school."
