(Not) Funny Prank (marina - with kids)

A/N: So, as you may have noticed, I'm not in the habit of posting any marina with kids content. However, this was a request from Kenzie446 and I actually like the idea, so I decided to make it happen, although I don't plan to write it regularly. This turned out completely different from my original plan, but oh well... Anyway, hope you enjoy!

| Maya's pov

"Mommy! Mommy!" Liam called from the couch.

He was five years old now. It has been both amazing and terrifying watching our baby grow, knowing he's not going to be our little boy for much longer.

"What's up, bubs?" I asked.

"How long 'til mama and Nina are home?"

Nina was a bright seven-year-old girl, despite her anxiety, which she developed while living with her biological parents.

After a lot of failed attempts to get pregnant, me and Carina decided to take a break from IVF and, maybe, try again in a couple of months. In the meantime, we had Liam and were focused on taking care of him. However, one day, we got a call from Liam's social worker, saying that they had a three-year-old girl, with clear signs of abuse, who got worked up just by the noise other kids made. They had tried everyone on their list for an emergency placement, but there was nobody available and the girl couldn't spend the night like that, so she tried us.

We accepted the request and welcomed Nina into our home that night, then the next, then it turned into weeks, months... She created a special bond with us and started to open up about her past after some time. In a couple of months, we decided to start the process to officially adopt her, which was much easier, since we already had Liam.

"I don't know for sure, but they left for a while now, so it mustn't take long. What do you need from them?" I replied to Liam's question.

"I want to play with sis!"

"I know, buddy. I miss them too..."

"Humm... Hey, mommy!" He started excitedly, jumping from the couch. "Can we play a prank on them?"

"Uhhh... I don't know, bubs... You know your sister gets scared easily, I don't think it's a good idea."

"Pleaseeee, mommy! I promise I'll be good; I won't yell. And the prank is for mama!" He begged with those eyes I couldn't resist.

Deep down, I also wanted to play a prank on Carina, so I gave in to his request. "Fine, BUT you have to be gentle, buddy. No yelling, no touching sis suddenly and no loud noises, okay, you promise?"

"Promise, mommy! Thank you!" He replied, hugging me. "Okay, now we need to plan what to do. Hmmm... Oh! I know!"

"What, bubs?"

"We can tell mama I broke her favorite crockery set." He suggested as I laughed, knowing how protective Carina is over that thing.

"She's gonna be so mad..." I said as Liam giggled, nodding.

| Carina's pov

"We are home!" I announced, opening the front door, while carrying an anxious Nina in my arms, who was clutching my clothes.

We had gone to a doctor's appointment and those are never funny for her. Although it did go well, being in the hospital and going through medical exams are both very stressful things for her.

"Hey, baby!" Maya greeted me with a kiss. She looked suspicious. "And hi, little one!" She added, leaving a kiss on Nina's hair.

"Hi, mommy." Nina replied weakly, not taking her head from the crawl of my neck.
