In front of me was two of the most beautiful people I've ever seen. It was a women and a man, both apparently a little older then me, dressed in elegant clothes as if they had just come out of a fancy party. Their faces looked like they came from a Greek sculpture, pale in the moonlight, alongside long, almost white, light blond hair, which the boy wore in a low ponytail and the girl kept loose, reflecting the light of the moon. They had very similar traits, as if relatives.
I didn't have to think twice about being scared. They just did know where we were in the deep woods as they smelled, among other things, blood. But there was something that made me more uncomfortable in them, it was a feeling, like an instinct, that told me that even as innocent as they seemed, they were very, very dangerous.
"If I were you, I wouldn't do that... In addition to taking forever, it leaves everything with your fingerprints...", said the girl approaching me, she smelled of lavender soap, berries, something I could not identify and female floral perfume to try to hide the smell of blood.
I quickly got up and took a step back, almost bumping into Erika, whose garlic necklace began to make my eyes burn.
"Take it off...", I spoke softly to Erika, but she was busy staring, between curious and terrified, our new companions.
"Who are you?", she asked after a phlegm, trying not to look frightened.
"Does dinner speak for you?", asked the man taking a step forward to join the women. He smelled like gin tonic, mint, expensive aftershave and, just like the other, that smell I couldn't identify next to the smell of blood.
"Her name is Erika!", I corrected staring at them.
"Don't say my name to them...", whispered Erika, but I was already approaching both.
"Who are you?", I asked, trying to make my best face of "I'm in control!".
"I'm Noah and this is my twin sister, Nina Gray" replied the boy offering his hand.
"I'm Hugo...", I introduced myself by shaking his hand. It was the same temperature as mine, cold. After that, I shook the women's hand.
"And what are you doing here, Hugo, in the middle of the forest, in a Thursday night?", asked her who now I knew named Nina.
"I could ask you guys the same thing.".
"We're not the ones with a body with a stake stuck in it and a human full of garlic.".
I took a deep breath. They got a good point...
"You're just like me, aren't you?", I said showing my fangs.
Erika took a leap back, which did me good, that garlic was making me dizzy.
The two guests showed their fangs in response and their eyes shone in the beautiful shade of gray they were. I was so relieved that I wasn't alone in this world that before they could open their mouths, I explained everything!
I told them how I had always been different, about the adoption houses, how I had been adopted by a wonderful couple, that I wanted to go to college, that I had been cornered by a serial killer, which I bit and now was afraid of him becoming a vampire like me.
"He won't..." interrupted Nina with a sweet smile. She and her brother looked at me with a mixture of compassion and curiosity.
"That's not how to make one of us! And if he's dead, he is just dead!", her brother continued.
"We are alive, Hugo! Alive!", said Nina putting her hand on my heart.
"I don't know any of this!" I spoke looking in her gray eyes and she smiled, approaching and giving me a hug.
A tight cold hug, accompanied by a grip on my shoulder from Noah.
"We can teach you," he said shrugging and I nodded very grateful.
Everything seemed to be going well when Erika in a jump pulled the stake from the heart of the body and pointed it at us.
"Ok! The show its over!".
"Ma'am, you don't have to get carried away.",Noah told Erika, who got even angrier.
"Does wooden stakes kill vampires?" I asked while raising my arms and taking a step back of Erika.
"Any very serious injury, usually something that rips our heads off or destroys our hearts can kill us...", Nina began by my side.
"But the wood...?".
"She hinders our healing process", finished Noah along his sister, both very calm, facing Erika, pensive.
"What about garlic?".
"As you've noticed, it's poisonous to us...".
This time I exalted:
"So, why aren't you bother by her having both pointed at us?!"
Noah and Nina started laughing, which left Erika and I pretty confused.
"We deal with hunters all the time! She's not the profile!", explained Nina leaning on her brother's shoulder.
"She killed that man!", I said pointing at the body and then adding:"Okay I helped, but... She's armed!"
After saying that, Noah practically appeared behind Erika, as fast that he moved, and pulled out the stake and garlic necklace, throwing both miles away.
Easy like that?! It wasn't until he did that, I realized how much I was exaggerating.
"Relax! I also exaggerate from time to time...", comforted Noah and I realized that I had not said anything about it.
"Did you read my mind...!?" I asked tensely and Noah shrugged.
"You really don't know anything, do you?", said Nina leaning her hand on my shoulder and I denied.
"Now we can focus on drinking something before the sun rises,", Noah said with his fangs exposed.
"Wait!", I said jumping towards the vampire.
Noah had his mouth open inches from Erika's neck when he stopped to listen to me.
"Not her!".
"Why not...?".
"She's my teacher!".
Noah sighed and walked away looking desirously at Erika's neck, which was shaking, terrified.
"Human parents and friends...", Nina said shaking her head in disapproval.
"That's why you're starving...!" added Noah.
That took me off. Who were they to talk about wonderful people like the Watsons?! They welcomed me and gave me a home, study, food and, most importantly, affection! I opened my mouth to talk, when Nina put a finger, with her nails beautifully painted red blood, on my lips.
"I'm sorry to speak about your family like this... We're just worried about you!" said Nina before I could say anything and I realized that she could also read thoughts.
I took a deep breath and nodded, still a little irritated.
"Especially in the setting you find yourself...", added Nina and Noah just appered to her agreeing with his head.
And before I could ask what this scenario would be, several pages of newspaper popped into my mind. All showing ads of missing youths from nearby towns. There was a lot, countless news, that ended with my photo next to Erika, with the headline written: "Victims Saved by an animal attack- Old bodies never found!".
"We are like the police in the vampire world, being the service of the queen fix this mess.", explained Nina.
"And we thought you were an outlaw vampire looking for fun in the trouble.",completed Noah.
I denied quickly and the twins looked to each other before smiling.
"You are definitely not the profile!", said Noah and Nina nodded in agreement.
"But you need to stay focus, because thanks to the news, this city will be crowded with various hunters!", completed Nina and I swallowed dry.
