"[Name]- Do... Do you think it's okay to like boys?"

That's the question that Kaminari asks you.

He's looking at you with a weight you don't quite understand yourself. Like your answer is really, really important, for reasons that you'll never know and if you did would never really understand.

But you've thought about that exact question before.

And you've already come to terms with the fact that yes, you do like boys. Yes, you're okay with it, and yes, you also like girls, and you're okay with that, too. It took a while. Actually, it took years. It's something you struggle with today, even.

But at least you know that you do like boys, and Kaminari clearly doesn't know if he does or not.

"Like, us? Me or you? If we liked another guy?" You ask, just to confirm.

The blonde nods.

"Yeah."

The word is breathless.

"Yeah. Yeah, it's okay," You look down, away from his face, only really just now thinking about the conversation topic. Why's Kaminari choosing you to ask of all people? "Love... Love's such a beautiful thing. Why limit what it can be, right?"

You force yourself to look up again.

Kaminari's eyes are wide, like he's still processing your words, like they mean something really big to him. Something huge. A part of him or a part of something about him.

You think you know what it is.

"Kaminari, do you like a boy?"

And Kaminari blinks.

Before he holds his head in his hands and groans.

"I- Dude, that's the thing, I don't know. And, you know, I never thought, like ever, that I would. And so- I don't care if someone's gay, I don't care at all, that shit's fine- but I just never thought it would be me."

He looks up. "It's really, really dumb."

You reach across the table to take his hand, asking first if it's alright. He nods.

"It's not dumb, not at all."

Those are the only words you say.

He blinks at you.

"[Name]," Kaminari gives you a nice, big smile, like you're a genius who's just figured out how to save his life, "Call me Denki."

You blink, and then you smile, and then he's smiling bigger.

You're about to reply back when the food arrives.

Honestly, you've both probably forgotten about the yakiniku that you've ordered by now. It was an afterthought, a shadow of something far more important. The conversation you were leading into, after all, was territory you hadn't ever trailed into with any of your friends.

Denki smiles at you in a way that looks different, somehow. Actually, his whole posture and demeanor looks slightly different. Weary, but weary in a way that he's tired from the aftereffects of something, not tired from a problem weighing him down now.

"Let's eat, how about it, [Name]?"

---

The yakiniku is delicious, as you expected - Denki has pretty good taste in things (hence why he likes you, but you don't know that part yet). The arcade in the back also holds its own. You're not very good at most of the games, but Denki absolutely destroys the records on the machine - most of them are his previous records, he explains to you, and he beats them everytime he comes here.
