The summer days seemed to blend together, each one a mix of warmth and new beginnings. Melanie had spent most of her time focusing on herself, her friends, and her art. She was gradually finding peace and was beginning to truly move on from the drama with Skye and Lincoln.

One afternoon, Melanie received a text from Lincoln that surprised her.

Lincoln: Can we talk? It's important.

Her heart raced as she read the message. She wondered what he wanted to talk about now, especially after their last conversation. She replied quickly.

Melanie: Sure. Where?

Lincoln: My place?

Melanie: Okay. Be there soon.

Melanie arrived at Lincoln's house, her heart pounding with anticipation. He greeted her at the door with a warm smile, his eyes reflecting a mix of emotions.

"Hey, Melanie," he said softly.

"Hey, Lincoln," she replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "What's up?"

"Come in," he said, leading her to the living room. They sat down on the couch, and Lincoln took a deep breath before speaking.

"I wanted to tell you in person... I broke up with Skye," he said, his voice filled with sincerity.

Melanie's heart skipped a beat. "You did?"

Lincoln nodded. "Yeah. I realized that I couldn't keep living a lie. It wasn't fair to her, and it wasn't fair to you. I want to be with you, Melanie."

Tears of relief and happiness welled up in Melanie's eyes. She had wanted to hear these words for so long. "Lincoln, I..."

He reached out and took her hand, his touch warm and reassuring. "I care about you so much, Melanie. I want to be with you, truly."

Without another word, Lincoln leaned in and kissed her softly. Melanie felt a rush of emotions as she kissed him back, the world around them fading away. They moved closer, their kiss deepening, and Melanie felt a sense of rightness she hadn't felt in a long time.

"Let's go to my room," Lincoln whispered, his voice filled with emotion.

Melanie nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. They made their way to his room, where Lincoln closed the door behind them. The room was dimly lit, creating an intimate atmosphere.

They sat on the edge of his bed, kissing passionately. Melanie felt her heart racing, her body responding to Lincoln's touch. He gently guided her to lie down, his kisses trailing from her lips to her neck, sending shivers down her spine.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Lincoln asked softly, his eyes searching hers for any hesitation.

Melanie nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yes, I'm sure."

Lincoln smiled, his eyes filled with love and desire. He began to undress her slowly, his hands gentle and reassuring. Melanie followed his lead, feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement as she removed his clothes.

They lay down together, their bodies entwined. Lincoln's touch was tender and loving, his movements slow and considerate. Melanie felt a rush of emotions as they came together, the experience both overwhelming and beautiful.

Lincoln's kisses were soft and reassuring, his hands caressing her gently. Melanie felt a sense of connection and intimacy she had never experienced before. As they moved together, she felt a deep sense of love and trust.

Afterward, they lay in each other's arms, their breathing slowly returning to normal. Melanie felt a sense of contentment and happiness, feeling closer to Lincoln than ever before.

"I love you, Melanie," Lincoln whispered, his voice filled with sincerity.

"I love you too, Lincoln," Melanie replied, her heart overflowing with emotion.

They spent the rest of the afternoon together, talking and holding each other, basking in the afterglow of their shared experience. Melanie felt a deep sense of peace, believing that they had finally found their way to each other.

However, as the days passed, Melanie began to notice subtle changes in Lincoln's behavior. He seemed distracted and distant at times, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She decided to confront him, hoping to clear the air.

One evening, she went to Lincoln's house again. They sat on the couch, and Melanie took a deep breath, preparing herself for the conversation.

"Lincoln, is everything okay?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

Lincoln hesitated, avoiding her gaze. "Yeah, everything's fine. Why do you ask?"

"I just... I feel like something's off," Melanie said softly. "Is there something you're not telling me?"

Lincoln sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Melanie, I need to tell you something."

Melanie's heart raced, a sense of dread washing over her. "What is it?"

"I didn't actually break up with Skye," Lincoln admitted, his voice filled with guilt. "I lied to you."

Melanie felt like the ground had been pulled out from under her. "What? Why would you lie about that?"

"I thought it was the only way to be with you," Lincoln said, his voice desperate. "I care about you so much, Melanie, and I didn't want to lose you."

Tears welled up in Melanie's eyes as she processed his words. She felt a mix of anger, hurt, and betrayal. "Lincoln, how could you do this? You used me."

"No, Melanie, it's not like that," Lincoln pleaded. "I love you. I really do. I just didn't know how to handle everything."

Melanie stood up, her heart breaking. "You need to figure out what you really want, Lincoln. I can't be with someone who lies to me."

With that, she turned and walked out, tears streaming down her face. She felt a deep sense of betrayal and heartbreak, realizing that the person she had trusted had deceived her.

As she walked home, Melanie resolved to focus on herself and her own healing. She knew it would take time, but she was determined to move forward, stronger and wiser from the experience. She had learned a valuable lesson about trust and self-worth, and she knew she deserved better.
