Prompt from TheRealAKB
It was a cold, rainy evening. Loki sat on the living room sofa, his legs spread across it as he watched The Clone Wars, something that he had been hooked on since you introduced Star Wars to him a few weeks back when you took a break from the usual avenging and kicking ass to relaxing and getting a full eight hours of sleep. Of which the second seemed impossible no matter what how much you tried to.
The familiar jingle of keys across your cozy house's porch rang in Loki's ears, and he immediately paused the tv. You had told him you were going out to get something, but apparently it was a surprise and although he would never admit it, he was slightly curious to know what you might get.
He smiled softly as you step inside, your f/c raincoat dripping wet and your hair damp. You held a strange brown cardboard box that, for some reason, had two large holes on four of its sides. Loki's eyes crept in confusion.
"What," he said, "is that?" he gestured towards the box.
"This?" you replied. "Oh, you'll see." You grinned playfully as you hang your raincoat on the coat hanger where it created small puddles on the floor. "Budge up." You walked over to the couch, where Loki had just moved so that you could have a seat. You opened the box and keep on the floor on one of its sides so whatever inside could come out.
And from inside crept out the most adorable kitten. You knelt down on the carpet-covered floor and outstretch your hand slowly towards the furry black cat, who was probably not older than a month and had sparkling bottle green eyes.
"Is that a cat?"
"No," you retorted, stroking the furry creature gently. It purred softly, rubbing its back on your hand. "It's a dog."
"Ha, ha, very funny," Loki rolled his eyes and smirked. "Why did you bring it?" his tone became slightly serious.
"What do you mean, 'why did you bring it'? She's ours!"
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"That means I adopted her."
"That-" he paused, probably in search of the right words. "That thing's a 'she'?"
"Yes, this cat is a she. And don't give me that look. She's adorable and now she's mine."
"Yes, darling, I get that. But... are you sure? It will not be an easy task to look after it- okay, fine, look after her."
"I know that Loki. But, important conversations first. She needs a name."
"You know her pronouns but not her name."
"Well, your parents decided your name after they learnt you were a guy, right? I doubt that they thought 'Ooh, this child shall be named Loki!' and then decided you're a boy."
"Okay, N/n. Whatever you say." He gave you an affectionate smile. "Now, about her name..." he let his gaze wander throughout the living room. His eyes fell on the tv screen.
"No, we are not naming her Ahsoka or Padme," you laughed. "Or Leia." (A/n- this is for a particular person who should be reading this. Om. 🙏🙏)
"I wasn't going to say so. You know, Y/n, my love, this is your cat. You should choose the name."
"Loki! That's not fair!"
"Well, turns out it is quite fair. It's just some stupid animal," he said coolly, shrugging.
"Loki! Can't you just stop with this nonsense! I get it, you don't like her!" you snarled. Loki still had that annoying expression on his face, an expression of great disdain, as if there was something unpleasant under his nose.
"Are you sure about this, Y/n?" he asked again, perhaps to calm you down.
"Yes," you snapped. "C'mon, pet her, she's so sweet!"
But Loki gave the kitten a look that clearly stated he did not want the creature near him. You looked visibly disheartened.
"She doesn't bite, you know," you said as a last attempt to get them bond. It failed miserably, with Loki simply replying "I know," and turning the tv back on, the voices of blasters and lightsabers replacing the awkward silence that had filled the air. You sighed and take the night-black cat into your arms, walking into your room and set up a nice cozy place for her because she must be getting sleepy after listening to you and Loki banter about things that she did not care about, you thought. You decided to name the kitten Luna.
Luna seemingly liked the space you set up for her, but showed no sign of sleepiness. She slipped out of the doorway, probably to explore the house. You, on the other hand, were exhausted and snuggled into your bed, switching off the lights and opening your phone to scroll through YouTube (or whatever social media you use) before finally sleeping.
Back in the living room, Loki was still watching tv. Luna entered the room, curious, however Loki pointedly ignored her. Although it was true that at the back of his mind, he hoped that you would come after her. He still felt slightly frustrated at you, he didn't want you to be mad at him for some silly cat.
He still gazed intently at the tv, but at the corner of his eye, he was actually watching the kitten as she gingerly entered the room and, to his surprise, leapt onto the very sofa he sat on and leaned onto him, rubbing against him.
He was taken aback. How was he supposed to respond to this? He carefully petted the cat, stroking its furry head. She leapt into his lap and lay down, flicking her tail occasionally.
Maybe he was wrong about the kitten, he thought as he turned the tv off, as it was nearly twelve and he knew that your neighbors would not approve of the noise at so late in the night.
Luna purred softly. Her curious, bright green eyes met Loki's and he smiled. Picking her up, he took her into his room and allowed her to settle down on his bed.
Loki didn't know when he fell asleep. Soon the night faded away and the sun began to shine, slipping through the blinds of Loki's bedroom. As you had to get back to work, you had woken up quite early, although against your will. And as you pull on a jacket before leaving the house, you come across a strange sight in his room.
It was Loki, stroking Luna gently on her back. He gave you a small wave and a smile as you left.
