RYAN
"You're finally awake." Eric said as I walked outside on the back porch. It had taken me a while to find him after brushing my teeth. It was just after ten AM which was considerably late for me.
But apparently he was up and at 'em. He dropped his jump rope on the ground and I leaned in the open doorway. "You're sweaty," I shook my head, backing away as he approached me.
"No good morning kiss?" His face feigned hurt.
"You can kiss me, but don't touch me until you shower." I tiptoed up to meet him in a kiss and he grabbed me into his arms, planting kisses all over my face while I tried to get away from him. It didn't matter though, the damage was done.
"Now I don't want to hear anything about trust in this relationship. You've ruined it, sir."
"Is that so?" He walked into the house, towards the kitchen and I followed him.
"It is so." I hopped up on the island and watched as he washed his hands.
"Omlette?" He asked as he pulled an already whisked and combined bowl of eggs, diced ham and spinach from the refrigerator.
"Yes, please!" My eagerness made him chuckle. Breakfast wasn't usually my first meal of the day but my hunger was almost unbearable. He handed me three strawberries to hold me over until he finished. "How is your patient? Is she okay?"
"Yeah, she's going to be fine. I got her implant replaced and her scar should heal nicely. I had to move it down because of the scar tissue from the previous surgery but vitamin E should have it nearly invisible if she follows the regimen I advised."
"I'm glad she's okay." I said, and I really was. I could only imagine how horrified she was in that moment.
"She had no other injuries so I was able to fix her up without a problem."
"Do you get a lot of emergencies like that?"
"It's plastics, so no. Every once in a while it happens though. Like this one time I did a replica of Kim Kardiashian's nose on a patient. Her first night out without the dressing, she gets into a bar fight and gets her nose busted."
I gasped, it sounded gruesome as fuck.
"Needless to say, after the repairs, it wasn't a Kim K nose anymore. It was almost Michael Jackson-esque but that was her fault." I laughed and I felt bad for doing so but the mental image of Kim Kardashian with Michael Jackson's nose was not pretty.
"Sometimes I'm called by the county hospital to assist or reconstruct trauma cases when their own surgeon is unavailable. Those are few and far between. I was called only three times last year."
"I hope they pay you well enough." I finished my last strawberry just as he came from the stove with two plates with spinach stuffed omelettes and toast. County hospitals were known to be cheap.
"Don't worry, I always get my money." He winked, "come on, let's eat."
I hopped down from the island and joined him in the breakfast nook that overlooked the side of his backyard. Beyond his cut grass was just tress and trees, as far as the eye could see.
"You don't want a dog or something? You have so much space." I craned my neck to try to see the other side of his backyard but the window didn't allow me to.
"I've thought about it, but I'm just too busy. This is the most time I've spent at home. I'm usually burying myself in work or at the gym. This free time is new to me."
At that, I looked at him. "Do you prefer to be busy?"
"I prefer to be with you."
I smiled, "will your preferences change?" God, this omelette is so good. Honestly, I don't care if I look like I've never eaten before. He had no business cooking this well.
