"Good morning, gorgeous." Barry walked into Mya's office. She was sitting at her desk, eating a bagel and taking notes on a conference call which she had on mute.
Barry Allen was outrageously handsome. Even at 37, he looked like a mature version of a college frat boy with his sparkling green eyes and unruly curly brown hair.
"Good morning!" Her smile was big and Barry did not miss the way her eyes lit up. Barry swooped around her desk for the sole purpose of kissing her on her forehead and taking a generous bite from her bagel.
"Oh wow," he said as he finished chewing. "That's really good, you have something new on there. What is that?"
"Avocado." Mya said seriously without even blinking. Barry coughed, hard. And then again.
"You're trying to kill me?!"
"You bit my food without asking." Mya said as his face flushed into a pale color. He was just waiting on the crippling anaphylactic shock that was sure to follow after eating avocado. He'd been allergic for as long as he could remember.
"I do that everyday!"
"So why would I add avocado if I know you do it everyday?" Mya shook her head at him and went back to typing on her computer.
"That's not funny." Barry stood up straight once he realized she was joking.
Barry leaned across her desk with his nose just a centimeter from hers. "How would you feel if I died?"
"I'd morn you for maybe a year, then I'd move on darling. Wouldn't you want me to be happy?" Mya's eyes were locked on his, then they fell to his lips. "Or am I to mourn you for the next sixty to seventy years of my life? Never to take another lover?" She stared for a second too long. Barry cleared his throat, letting her know that she was caught.
"What are you looking at?" He asked once her eyes returned to his. She wanted to say something, or do something. He'd seen that look from her before. It was a nearly flirtatious look of adoration that made his heart warm.
"Get out of my face." Mya pushed his shoulder then leaned back into her seat, putting space between them.
Barry stood back to his full height with a satisfied smirk on his face. Mya rolled her eyes at him and went back to clicking around on her screen to keep it from going idle.
"For the record," Barry spoke as he buttoned up his suit jacket. "I'm not the guy who wants you to be happy. I want you to mourn me for the rest of your life..." Barry walked towards the door of her office. He had a deposition to get to. He stopped in the doorframe then looked at her over his shoulder. "Never to take another lover." Barry winked and walked off. He didn't have to see her to know she was blushing.
After a long and exhausting workday, Mya was excited to go home and see her boyfriend, Jeremy. He had been distant lately but she planned to cook dinner and they could share a meal, they could talk.
Mya had just plated their grilled chicken, asparagus and rice when Jeremy walked in the door. He rounded the corner and she greeted him with a big smile. "Hi, sweetie. Let me take that," she moved to grab his briefcase but he held his grip on it. "You don't want to have dinner together?"
"Not tonight, I have business to take care of."
"If not tonight then when, Jeremy? You've been at this for a month now!"
"When you start paying bills around here, then you can complain. Until then, I'd suggest you be grateful your man is allowing you to use your salary to pay off law school."
"I am grateful." Mya grabbed his hand that was holding his briefcase since the other was holding his cell phone to his ear. "I really am, I just...I miss you, I miss us."
