The years have passed, yet to a Dragon like me it might have well been a few weeks.
To a Dragon, not a human when did I stop considering myself a person. What dose it matter anymore I've done too much to argue what I am anymore.
All I need is my gold.
Smaug was right. It wasn't enough was never enough. I only clung to my first pile for five months before I lost my restraint again to find more.
One pile became two, two became ten then before I knew it I had to carve out my cave for piles the size. Of two story houses. And the blood did little for it to bother me anymore.
I clung to the comfort of gold more fervently, and soon my obsessed grew . Any kindness I had once possessed fled, and I became a dangerous, and deadly beast. Time passed and I grew larger and stronger, and became more powerful. My strength and aggression increase. And so did smuag constant whispers.
"Soon little pretender you'll be gone and all this will be mine."
"What happened pretender, didn't you say that this was enough five ships ago. Where did I'll never be you go."
"Leave me be.. I am trying to sleep." I say buried under my collection. The gold gave me warmth and a sense of fulfillment. It never lasted long. The sickness always demands more.
More jewels
More gold
It is a endless cycle. I get gold, I am satisfied, the new becomes full and then I get more. Killing anyone in the way.
I dig myself deeper in the piles to cancel the sickness. I'm tired I want to just sleep forever in the piles never be disturbed.
Ever again.
"Eric. Eric get up you'll be late for school."
Eric groans, he groggily opens his eyes and glares at his curtain that failed to contain the sunlight from reaching his room. He stretched, groaning as his bones cracked. He really needs to start exercising more or else he might end up feeling like an old man.
I made breakfast! Hurry up before it gets cold! You don't want to be late for school!" His mother shouts. Eric rolled his eyes before getting out of bed and getting ready for the day.
He is going to hang out with his friends after school. He hopes that his father can lend him some money for a bit of shopping.
He went down to the kitchen and saw his sister and father already at the table, eating away their breakfast. His sister, Annie was scrolling through her phone but taking bites between her scrolling through instagram or whatever app she goes on.
He sat down, and his mother put a plate in front of him.
"Have any plans today?" She asked him, smiling at him before she sat down herself and began eating. Eric nods, taking a bite of food.
"I want to go to the mall with my friends. Dad, can I borrow some money?" He asked. His father looked up before sighing and nodding.
"Of course, just be back home before curfew." He said.
Eric nods before grinning. 'Thanks dad."
His mother smiles at them before eating her own food.
He misses this. When life was simple. When he was just another boy. Not worrying about very little except what he was deciding to do that day.
Not what he dose now. God this feels like a life time ago. Never realizing that he take this for granted as simple as having breakfast with his family.
