{Centuries Before The Curse}
Y/N shivered, tucking her knees into her night gown. She already couldn't sleep, and the cold wasn't helping.
"Baelfire!" She whispered through gritted teeth. "Quit hogging the blanket!"
"I'm not hogging!" He whispered back.
"Yes you are!" Y/N kicked him in the shins, yanking the blanket back.
"Ow!" Baelfire exclaimed, firmly pinching her arm as he made a grab back for it.
The two tugged back and forth at the blanket, voices growing louder and louder as they hit and kicked. Until they heard a knock at the door and immediately fell silent, pretending to sleep.
Their father peeked his head through the threshold, a candle in his grasp. He glanced around the room, his eyes falling on his still children, before shutting the door and making his way back to his room.
"I hate being poor." Y/N whispered, "I wish we had our own beds."
"We're not poor." Baelfire whispered "Papa makes enough to feed us and that's more than a lot of people can say." Y/N was quiet, as she carefully listened for her papa's footsteps.
"I'm really worried Bae." She whispered.
"About what?" He said sleepily, turning to his side.
"The war."
Baelfire sat up slowly and turned to her. A look of exhaustion and anxiety clear on his face. He was silent for a while before a weak phrase slipped out.
"Me too."
"We'll be drafted in almost a year now."
"I know." He said quietly. Pulling his knees to his chest.
"What are we going to do when that happens?"
"We fight." He said seriously and softly. "We survive and come home with medals. That's all we can do."
"I don't know if we will come home Bae."
"We will."
"How can you be sure?"
"Because, we'll have each other. Since we're twins we'll go to front lines together. We'll always have someone to watch our backs."
"Yeah.. you're right."
"We'll be okay Y/N." Baelfire smiled softly before spreading the blanket evenly. "Now hush up so I can sleep, loudmouth."
"I'm not a loudmouth." She muttered as she turned onto her side and closed her eyes. Drifting into a deep sleep.

Y/N's eyes bolted open, she reached to the other side of the bed, but it was cold. She'd dreamed of her brother again.
Her eyes began to wet, it had been five years since he'd vanished through that portal, but the pain had yet to numb.
She crawled out of her bed, a four poster canopy, goose downed with velvet sheets. Though luxurious she'd still slept better on the hay mattress in their old cottage.
