'Eyes are the windows to the soul.'
As far-fetched as the concept was, Norman still put his trust in the theory, keeping a stern belief that he could present himself through expressive actions instead of words. He loved the idea that he didn't need words to show who he was, just like Ray didn't need words to explain himself either. It was an interesting thing to think about, and one that was becoming more believable by the day...
But even so.
There was a thread of doubt tangled in his thoughts and opinions on the matter, and it had strengthened after the encounter he had with the mysterious boy the previous day. He wasn't quite sure how to describe the unfamiliar doubt that had started to accumulate, all he knew was that it was sudden, and it appeared as soon as he saw the tinge of fear embedded in the ravens dark green forest eyes. Why was he questioning it all now? Was it because of the way Ray looked that day? Or was it something more?
Norman found himself in a mental interrogation as he paced back and forth in his brother's office. William's eyes were glued to his computer screen, the violent tapping on the keyboard being heard every so often as he typed quickly. Norman wasn't sure what to do. Should he try talking to the other again when school starts back up on Monday? Or give him space? Both options didn't settle well with him, but he had to choose, right? He finally thought he was getting somewhere with Ray. He tried his hardest not to anger or upset him, so where did he go wrong? Did he do anything wrong to begin with? He had a strange feeling that he wasn't the cause of Ray's sudden leave yesterday, but he didn't know for sure...
Norman closed his eyes, letting out small hums as he tried putting the pieces of the puzzle together. But it was more difficult than he had anticipated it to be. Ray was mute. He didn't know for how long he had been, but something must've forced him into a position where he contemplated the idea of staying quiet forever. But what?
"What's going on in that big head of yours?" His thoughts withered away, his platinum blonde hair being ruffled as his brother stood before him. The albinos ocean blue eyes gazed down onto the wooden floor, was is such an idea to include William in his problems? Norman wasn't sure, but he didn't have time to process anything as he found words passing through his lips without consent. "There's this guy.... Ray-"
"Is he the mute kid you were talking about?"
"Yes, that's him." The pale boy took in a large breath before exhaling, "Today I was able to finally talk with him. Of course, not with words. He wrote or typed messages out for me, but I feel like he was starting to warm up to me a little. Then..." Then what? Ray had gotten bored and decided to leave? No. No, he was certain there was more to it than that, but what? What was he overlooking? His browed furrowed in frustration, and there was a missing piece to this puzzle that no one was willing to give him. "Then what? Are you gonna continue?" It unsettled him what he was about to tell William, but he knew he would be able to gain useful advice from him.
"We talked for a little while, but then, I don't know he just took off? He left in a hurry, but I can remember the expression he had... He looked scared, terrified even. But I don't know why, though..." William nodded his head in understanding, taking off his glasses to wipe them clean, "I won't lie, what you've just told me sounds kinda weird, don't you think? He looks scared and just runs away? Something isn't right there."
